“No Regrets!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

I requested a room with a view and was given a corner room with two large windows and a patio overlooking Rockefeller Center! Service was fabulous and efficient and the rooms were modern and clean. I had free room WiFi, bottled water, a fridge and air conditioning. My stay at The Jewel made my first trip to New York even better. I would definitely recommend The Jewel and would book my next vacation in NY with them!

Room Tip: Corner suite with a patio facing Rockefeller Center was an unexpected bonus! All I did was request a...

I stayed here with two of my kids (13 and 23) for 3 nights in late September. We booked a "superior room with kitchenette" for some precious extra space. We were given two twins pushed together for one bed (was expecting a queen so this worked out even better), then a fold out ottoman which was almost a twin size, all of which worked out fine for us. The kitchenette had a microwave and mini fridge but what we did not expect was the following: toaster, stove top, dishes, silverware, plastic bowls, strainer, and other misc kitchen items. Great if you drive (we flew, with carry on only) and know about this ahead of time and want to cook in your room I suppose, but this is not what we wanted to do in NYC....still nice little area and the extra space was essential. We had a view of Rockefeller Center..it is right there, across a quiet street then a busier street. we noticed very little road noise. Work does occur in the evening hours all over NYC with garbage trucks, construction projects etc and all that occured outside our window but we did not hear anything outside but did hear doors, toilets, etc within rooms like in many hotels.

There is a Duane Reed drug store (like Walgreens) right down the street for forgotten essentials, snacks, and extras. I got up early each day and got either Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, both located below Rock Center , and felt very safe as a female doing this each day at 6:30 am. Waved to the Today Show on my way-visited there a few hours later, very close to room and so fun to see all of that in action.

Bathroom is a little different as others have posted, but there are tissues in the room contrary to a previous post, but not in the bathroom, just on either sides of the beds. Water pressure is weak in the shower, but this is common in big cities from what I hear. Towels, as others have said, are a gamble...we had a few that were shredded, literally, but then we needed more and they brought up a bunch of better, thick towels for us.

We walked to many places the first day, and tried the subway the next day, which is also very close. We took a taxi both ways to the airport, and with no doorman or big lobby we wondered if this would be a problem getting back to LaGuardia. We left on Sunday and there was no problem hailing one right outside the building and got to LaGuardia for about $30 plus tip. Arriving Thurday night in rush hour was a little more expensive..$35 I think. Front desk manager also said you could call for a service (different from a taxi, which you can't call ahead of time in NYC) from the hotel to LaGuardia starting at $45.

Overall a wonderful stay-clean rooms, courteous and knowedgable front desk staff, safe area in my opinion, excellent location for our needs.

My partner of 32 years and I stayed at the Jewel while in New York for our wedding on 9/20/13! There were a total of 10 other guest who also stayed there as well. The staff were all just wonderful to us, always greeting us and asking if all was going well and to our satisfaction. It was "Southern Hospitality" yet in the the Big Apple! Will definitely stay there again if in the city! Club Terrace Restaurant next door is great!

Room Tip: 11th floor rms. facing 51st St. have terraces.

We stayed here after thanksgiving last year and lived the location right at Rockefeller. The full floor ceiling windows make for an enjoyable view. Go to Radio City right out the door practically. This is one of my top picks for economical places to stay in NY.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room with a view.

Stayed at the Jewel for six nights in June, nothing was too much trouble and the location is just the best, really central for everything. Was a bit worried about the room size after reading other reviews but there was plenty of room, we were lucky to get a room with a balcony on the 11th floor which was great. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yvonne & Neil

Room Tip: Try for the 11th floor as there are give rooms there with balconies

We booked into the new Hotel Boutique at Grand Central for 2 nights but was contacted a week before our stay that the hotel wasn't ready, so we were transferred to The Jewel with free breakfast included.
In terms of location the hotel was within walkable distance of most big sights in Manhattan. It was located closed to the E metro line stop, making travel to JFK very convenient. Finding the hotel at first was a little challenging due to the scaffolding outside. At check in, the staff was efficient and helpful. The room was small compared to other hotels outside of Manhattan. When you are visiting NYC however, you don't tend to spend that much time in the hotel room anyway. The room was clean and had good range of amenities.
Breakfast in the terrace next door was good. Had a good range of warm and cold choices. When the weather is nice, sitting outside for breakfast with a view is difficult to find in NYC.

Great little hotel right across from Rockefeller Plaza. I rented the smallest room available because I was alone and didn't need much room as I don't really hang out in my room when I am on vacation. The amenities were fine. Bed was good, shower a little cramped but doable. For NYC, midtown location, the price was great. Close to subways, easy walk to Central Park or Broadway shows. I will definitely stay there again. My only issue was that the TV was poor quality and could not obtain all the stations that were listed.
