“My new home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We've just returned from four nights at The Jewel, and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Typically for NY the rooms are small but they're well-designed with good quality fittings that actually WORK, and the location is ideal. Free chilled water, free wifi, free gym, and delightful friendly staff. I've stayed at some pretty fancy hotels in NY, but The Jewel has been better than any of them. I have absolutely no links to the hotel or staff.

We recently spent four nights here over the Easter weekend. This is by far the best location for someone looking to explore the city as a tourist. The hotel is within walking distance of rockefeller center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park, 5th Avenue, Times Square and Radio City Music hall.

I stayed here with my spouse and young toddler and it was perfect for a family. The rooms tend to be long with the bed at the end but still have plenty of space for storage and a small desk. The "living room" on the 2nd floor offers a nice space for people doing business and available computers for internet use, but if you have a smartphone or laptop, you will already have free wi-fi.

The service was great and we loved the free filtered water bottles on every floor. We even used the gym and free laundry facilities, although you should note there is only 1 washer and dryer. But again, they are available to guests free of charge.

The only downsides of this hotel were that the bathroom did not have a bathtub, only a shower stall. And the water pressure was too low for my liking. But these things were minor compared to the benefits of staying at this hotel.

I would highly recommend to families, business travelers and single travelers alike.

We spent 3 nights there. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room is small, but it was comfortable. We had a view of Rockefeller Center. It's in a very convenient location, we will go back there.

We spent just one night, but would make it our first choice next trip. Friendly, helpful staff and great location. We arrived early, our room wasn't ready, but they stowed our bags. We took advantage of the $35 late checkout the next day. That allowed us to keep our room til 3:00. Stowed our bags again for a couple more hours till it was time to go. They have a car service they work with and will arrange a ride to the airport. It runs about $15 more than a taxi to LaGuardia. Computers in the "living room" to print your boarding passes. And, as others have mentioned, the filtered water station to fill clean bottles provided at the station on each floor, was a nice touch. Room was very functional, lots of plugs for your devices, 2 chairs, microwave and small fridge. Good sized bathroom, we never heard anyone else and room temperature was perfect. We didn't even turn on the heat.

Room Tip: Room 1408 had a view of St. Patrick's Cathedral and 51st Street.

Hotel was in an excellent location. Right in the middle of all the action! Everything was walking distance.
Hotel itself was very clean and quiet. Staff were nice and friendly - greeted you with a warm welcome every time you walked in. They gave us a voucher for a complimentary drink at their patio but we did not have time to use it. We had a room facing office buildings on the 6th floor so could not even see if the sun was out. The air conditioning seemed to be acting up - hot and cold cycles but that did not bother us too much. The room was somewhat small but did the job. There was clean water bottles with a cooler/filter in the hall - that was very convenient. Did not use their breakfast but just as you step out there are two little cafes that offer all you need for breakfast and cheap!
Overall, I would come back to the Jewel. Its nicely tucked away from all the traffic, right across from Sacks 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center and a short walk to Grand Central Station!

Centrally located at 51 St between 6th and 5th Ave. Facing the Rockefeller Centre, steps from St. Patricks Cathedral.
Modern, clean, simple furnished. Our room 205 standard double though pretty dark served it's purpose, it was quite so we could rest perfectly. Located on 2nd floor where they have the "living room" with coffee / tea making facilities, news paper, computers it was really convenient. Free bottled purified water an additional PLUS.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Glad that I cancelled my reservation at the Warwick a few blocks further and decided to stay here.

We ice skated at Rock Center until midnight and then stepped across the street to our room in this great little hotel. Well suited for families, this hotel offers not only a great location but also rooms with pull out beds, refridgerators and microwaves. And, by midtown Manhattan standards, relatively large rooms. The hotel is clean, contemporary and well appointed.
