This was our 3rd hotel since our trip started- due to limited booking options, we were nomads and moved around to several Hilton properties. I have never stayed in the financial district, so it was an adventure for us and I am glad we did.
Let me start by saying that it is not for everyone- you are far removed from the action but if you don't mind taking the subway uptown, you will do well.
My first impression is that the staff was awesome and attentive. The bell men were funny and were quick to help us with our bags. The staff at the front desk were amazing, and we were given a room on the 42nd floor. Off we went- rooms are small, expected, it is NYC and you are in an older area of town. Clean room with a modern feel, which I loved. All of the properties we stayed this past week, this one my favorite.
Breakfast is served till 11 am and it is busy- so plan accordingly. There is a buffet style option at 19$. I think that's reasonable price considering you pay more for the same at a different area of town.
Overall- I would stay here in a heartbeat, but I would caution those who want to be close to the action. The area dies down after 5pm, when everyone goes home from work. There are numerous restaurants that stay open till around 11 or so, but anything after that, you are on your own and will have to move uptown for some action. Sandy affected a large part of the area, so it is a big construction site a few blocks away.
The R train- is right on the corner- easy access to midtown which is about 15 minutes ride.
Overall- great hotel for our vacation but I don't think it is for everyone. The area has its cons and you may feel isolated.
If you do stay- buy a weekly unlimited pass on the subway, regardless if you stay a full week or not, it will be cheaper in the long run.
Taxis from midtown to hotel run about 20-25 dollars.
