“Great Choice for NYC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012 via mobile

Second trip to the city & this trip we wanted to stay closer in. The hotel is refreshingly modern, room sizes are standard for a city hotel. Easy access to multiple Subway lines making the trip uptown quick & easy. The staff was very accommodating(Anthony pm staff was great) & even watched our bags for us after we checked out so my wife could grab breakfast. The cookies were fresh and available whenever.

Wifi was free in lobby...it would be nice if it were in the rooms.

We were pleasantly surprised to find the hotel location so handy for several underground stations and many different restaurants. A 24 hour pharmacy is located just around the corner. We loved the bagels from Leos bagels, next to Hanover Sq just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Also Luke´s lobster is very close which was great!

Rooms are small but ok. Air conditioning worked great but a bit loud. Bed/bedding were wonderful. The room was very clean, housekeeping did a great job. We got warm cookies when checking in which was nice! Free Wifi in the lobby.

The concierge was really helpful and nice! She helped us make plans for 4th of july.

Would stay again!

We chose this hotel for a weekend in the city and it was a perfect destination, close to the Governors Island ferry, subways and Stone Street Bars & Restaurants. We arrived early and were greeted by Jimit Patel. He was the front desk supervisor who made sure that we had everything we needed even upgraded us! It was my birthday and he even delivered something special to our room for me! The room a perfect size, beds were comfortable and on the 44th floor never had to wait for an elevator longer than maybe a minute. This hotel is somewhere we would come back to! Thanks for making it an awesome experience from start to finish.

The hotel is located just a couple of blocks south of the stock exchange, but it's tucked away on a side street so it feels like I got to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's also very close to Battery Park for strolls along the water. There are several subway stations just within steps from the hotel: 1, 5, R, J, etc. Those are really the only positives about this hotel...

For a hotel with 44 floors, you would expect more than just 3 elevators. Hence the long wait a lot of past reviewers complained about. When we first arrived, we were offered a room on a higher floor. After we accepted, the guy discovered his colleague right next to him had just given it to the couple who walked in ahead of us. Either the system needs to get a faster update or communications between staff members need to be improved. The couple next to us (who nabbed the room with the view) was also offered bottled water, but we didn't get any. When we asked about it, the staff told us that it wasn't included in our room package. Are you kidding me?? It's almost 90 degrees outside and you can't let go of $4, especially after making a boo-boo with our rooms?

The room wasn't cleaned up well. I found two stray strands of blond hair on the bed when we first got in. There was also no extra toilet paper even though the roll next to the toilet was almost done. The bathroom itself is very small. There was no counter space for our toiletries. After housekeeping made up the room on the second day, I found hair left on the bathroom floor again.

Great price for a great location, but the hotel is sub-par.

I managed to book 6 nights via hotwire @130 dollars +tax, so the price is very competitive. The room was clean, the location is good for me, especially the metro station is 10 steps from the hotel. I had no problems with elevators, I waited maximum 30-40 seconds, and 20 seconds in average. So this is no big deal. At the lobby, you have free wi-fi, and there are 3 computers with internet you can use. The staff was very polite and helpful. The only thing is, I do not think this hotel is 4stars, should be 3 or 3.5. I mean dont expect any luxury or big spaces.

The up side:

Good price online compared to other Hiltons in Manhattan.

Locaiton is close to multiple subway stops, and not too far from the South Street Seaport and 9/11 memorial.

We used the self parking garage across the street and while hesitant at first, had a good experience with them.

The room was clean and well kept, bathroom was spotless, bead heavenly, and the wireless internet (annoying fee) worked well in the room.

The men working the ground floor lobby (different staff on all shifts over multiple days) had excellent customer service skills. Always welcoming, sincere, and willing to help with directions and tips on the lower part of Manhattan.

The down side:

Obviously, the elevators. The reviews don't lie, they are horrible. We knew this in advance and gave up the hope of a good view, instead asking for the lowest possible floor. It worked. Going up, we couldn't avoid the elevators, but we walked down the stairs when leaving and always took the stairs from the 2nd floor lobby to the ground level to save time.

Dear EastCoastGnomer,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel. I am happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay with us for the most part. We are aware of the elevators being a little slow during rush times in the hotel especially on sold out night and want to apologize for the wait. We do hope that this will not keep you from coming back should your travels take you to New York in the future.

This is really a 2.5 hotel....

I stayed here for business and the hotel was OK. Its a good location if you want to be near the stock exchange or battery park.

When I arrived my room had a broken toilet. When I say broken.. I mean constantly running with the handle on the floor. This was a hard to miss issue by housekeeping. The check-in staff immediately found me a new room but it seemed like an avoidable issue.

In general things seemed clean in the hotel. Although, the rooms felt dingy because they were so dark and had black and grey carpet.

Other reviewers have commented about the very small rooms and long lines for the elevators. I can confirm that this is all true. I would also point out that the beds were really small. They are fine if you are by yourself but seemed smaller than a normal double (both in length and width).

There is a cafe in the hotel. I had a breakfast one day and it was better than I expect from Hilton's free breakfast.
