“Lovely haven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2015

A lovely haven in a busy town. Perfect rooms with all you need and more. Very kind and helpful staff and a nice atmosphere. Best place in East Village, close to SoHo and the surroundings. Would visit again anytime!

Sanctuary was better than we even expected. We got an amazing price and I kept thinking something had to be horribly wrong with the place for that price....quite the opposite! It was perfect. We had a late arrival on a Saturday night and Mario made sure everything was seamless and he was waiting there for us and ensured we had everything we needed. Beautiful, super clean, and unbelievably spacious in a great neighbourhood. Easy to walk to great restaurants, SOHO shopping and access anywhere else in the city via subway. My only disappointment was that we didn't get a chance to try any of their yoga classes or their volunteer experience (our stay was too short!) We will definitely stay here again and again!!

We stayed in the Buddha suite and could not have had a lovelier place to stay while we were in New York for the week. From the moment we arrived late in the evening from Norway to the early morning taxi pickup on our way to Washington Dc the staff helped make our stay stress free and fantastic, everyone was so helpful and not least friendly.
The whole area was safe and we loved all the street art projects, bars restaurants and the whole atmosphere of Lower east side. We will never go passed the Sanctuary when returning to Manhattan. Thank you Mario and all the staff for wonderful service ♥ Carolyn, Jarl-Ove and Martin from Norway xxx

Great quiet location for a NYC holiday. Easy access to the Subway for a very quick and easy trip to Time Square etc. Great afordable resturants near by as well as all other types of shops and activities.

We have three teenagers and the size of the rooms - one queen one king and a roll away was perfect for us.

Great modern kitchen in which we cooked our own breakfast and we even had an outdoor area that the kids loved when the snow began to fall!!

Service was perfect and although the office is not your traditional front desk of a hotel we had no problems getting information and support.

Get your travel agent on board and get yourself a room at this great location. After seven weeks travelling in the States yours was one of the best.

We stayed at Sanctuary on Stanton for two weeks in December 2014. Our stay was without a doubt one of the best we've had in New York, and we've stayed in many, many hotels, chain, budget, boutique, etc. Our room was spacious and very clean with all amenities provided - Towels, linens, shampoo, soap. There was a full kitchen in our room, including coffee maker, toaster, blender, dishwasher, full sized oven, and all dishes and flatware, etc. The bathroom was large and provided plenty of storage and a hairdryer.

The location is ideal - do NOT be put off by staying on the Lower East Side. The subway is about a 7 minute walk which will take you to pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance. One of the best bagel shops - Heaven's Hot Bagels - is about a 10 minute walk, so well priced it's not even funny, especially being in NY! Where else can you get a huge smoked salmon breakfast bagel with all the fixings for $7!!!

Back to the apartment... There are TWO locations for this property. We stayed at the location where there is an elevator (all rooms are on the second floor). The other property has stairs, so if you CANNOT CLIMB STAIRS, make sure you are staying in the property with the elevator!

We did not get to sample the vegetarian daily breakfast due to the fact that they were in the process of renewing their food license. No problem, we will the next time we're there, and we will definitely stay there again...and again!

We did read complaints that there are no toiletries, or linen changes, etc. THIS IS STATED CLEARLY IN THE RESERVATION DETAILS. It's NOT a hidden item. We had plenty of towels and knew that if we needed more, they were always available. There is no daily maid service, the linens are changed every week, but once again, if you needed a clean sheet, the staff are extremely accommodating and kind. And we had plenty of soap and shampoo provided.

There are yoga classes offered daily downstairs, and they are free to guests. The atmosphere is peaceful and calm. You are so close to the craziness of mid-town Manhattan, yet far enough away to escape too many late night noises, etc. (Remember, you are in NY, so it's never going to be silent!)

If you are looking for a cookie-cutter hotel, with the usual "vanilla" experience, then probably go to a Marriott or Hilton. If you're looking for a place to stay that feels like it's your own little apartment, getting a taste for being one of the "locals", then this is the place for you. You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Om" room - it was excellent.

We are a family of five and stayed five nights in Sita. The place is perfect, nice location in Lower East Side, close to good restaurants and not far from Wholefoods and Essex Market. The apartment is very clean, beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. Heating worked very well. Enough space for five persons. We will definitely return.
