“The Setai Fifth Avenue, NYC Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

Our weekend stay at the hotel was an auction item donated by the hotel at the UN Ambassadors Ball in December 2011. You can't imagine our surprise when we walked in our apartment suite room on the southwest corner 20th floor. I thought we won the lottery, instead of an auction item. The view was spectacular especially at night. The apt. is completely and exquisitely furnished with washer, dryer, coffee machine and complementary refreshments in the fridge, wi-fi, large bathroom and a large half bath. The orchid plant was a nice touch. Friendliest staff and quick service. What I also like is the hotel has no check out time depending on availability. They have also a place on the 4th floor which you can go back to if you have already check out. You must also try Ai Fiori restaurant and the bar and cocktail lounge. Very good food and nice atmosphere. You can also stay home and cook since it has a fully equipped kitchen but no microwave oven, alas. We recommend this hotel's apt. suite especially if you are staying longer. We will certainly come back.

Room Tip: rooms on the north side are quieter because of the building constructions on the rear south side...

We used to live in NYC so when we headed back for a romantic special weekend we chose the Setai.

My boyfriend worked with the concierge to plan a special (engagement) weekend. The staff was excellent.

We never stayed at the hotel before and were impressed with the private atmosphere.

The room is beautifully appointed in a minimalist way. They stock the fridge with unlimited water or soda at no extra charge. They will even shine your shoes or steam your shirt.

We loved this Capella hotel so much, we booked another one of their properties in Cabo San Lucas.

Room Tip: Get a room with a separate soaker tub.

The Setai Fifth Avenue was everything that other reviews have stated. The lobby is inviting. The rooms are very large and well designed. The restaurants and lounge were ideal especially for a brutally cold NYC weekend. I usually prefer The Mark but I may have found a nice alternative for a weekend trip to the city. Give it a try!

When we arrived we were checked in very easily and polite and were given our room on the 8th floor which was a shame as I asked for a highest room possible when we booked as we looked for a tall hotel so we could get great views of New York. When we got into the room i thought this is small espically as I paid for an upgraded room. I spoke with reception and we found out i was placed in the wrong room as there was a booking error but after proving my room booking i was upgraded to a much larger room on the 17th floor. The room itself was nice and clean with a big bath as everyone says. I can not compare to other New York Hotels but was still a little underwhelmed but it was very clean and comfortable so it was acceptable. After travelling from florida to see the city we were blasted by the cold so after a little walking we went to bed early. 6.45 am crash bang wallop there was a hell of a noise outside our room window and by 7.05am it was hell with the noise of builders less than 20 feet from our window it was pure hell every morning. We could not open the curtains at any time or if we did we would be looking straight in the face of 10-20 builders. You will be amazed we got up at 6.45 am every morning and left the hotel and did not return until after 5pm. The room however was always cleaned perfectly and all the drinks were free in the mini bar and the staff at ALL times were very friendly and 100% professional so no issues there also we found the hotel well situated for what we wanted we even walked down to the ferry to the Statue of Liberty which took a long time :) Overall Staff great Hotel 4-5 stars room given due to building work 0 stars.
Please also note hotel is first 28 floors the other 30 plus floors are private apartments so dont book this one if you want great views of new york or you will be shocked.

Room Tip: ask for room away from building work as it is loud and starts early!

We stayed here for 3 nights in a studio-king and we think it is the best hotel in New York, near Timessquare and all the shops and in the bar on 5th (groundfloor) there is every evening live jazz-music from 8 till 11.

i love this hotel. The bed is comfortable, the room is spacious, and the bathroom is very fully equipped. A wardrobe is there, you can put all luggages inside. I love the modern style with separate shower room, two wash basins, toilet & a bath tub. (we had a studio room for two adults & 2 teenager). The location is also good and close to starbucks & some coffee shop. Walking distance like 3 min to the Empire building & 34th Street for shopping. The check-in & check-out time is quick, staffs are friendly. Very fine restaurant in the hotel.
