“Our new go-to home in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We were in New York for a week and stayed at the boutique Nolitan Hotel with our families. Given we were booking four rooms for a week we made our booking direct with the hotel.

It was the first time we had stayed in this area of Manhattan and following our visit we would most definitely look to stay in the same area if, and when, we come back to New York. It proved easy to navigate Manhattan with a number of subway stations nearby. In addition there are ample bars, restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood that we made good use of and gave a real community feel that you don’t necessarily get in Times Square.

We booked a Cityscape Corner room and we were allocated room 902 – would recommend. The room was both spacious and clean and from our experience of other NY hotels offered excellent value for money. We both liked the ‘industrial’ feel of the unfinished concrete ceiling. The other finishes in the room were all of high quality.

The bed was both large and very comfortable and neither of us had any issues sleeping. Even the traffic noise from down below didn’t cause us any major issues although it may have been more of an issue if you had been sleeping on one of the lower floors.

Both the shower and free-standing bath in our room were great. The shower was large and powerful which makes such a difference from a weak shower that gives you barely a trickle of water. The free-standing bath was large and provided great views of the Empire State Building as we lay relaxing in the tub. As it is ‘part’ of the room it may be a little strange for those who like to sit in the bath in total privacy but it wasn’t something that bothered us.

As our room was on the top floor, occupied a corner position, and had floor to ceiling windows we had amazing views of the mid-town skyline (Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, etc) and also east towards the Williamburg Bridge. Equally, you could go to the roof-top of the hotel and get fantastic views in the same directions but also towards the financial district.

WiFi was available in rooms (and public areas) free - as it should be! There was good coverage and we never experienced any issues connecting or major issues with speed (iPhone and iPad usage).

There was a continental breakfast included free but it was only fruit juice, tea/coffee and bagels/pastries. A selection of cereals and fruit would have been a nice addition. Hopefully this will improve once the new restaurant opens later this month.

Overall we would highly recommend the Nolitan Hotel. It provided a great base for us for our trip and we loved the style and feel of the hotel. Service from staff was superb and we can’t fault them. All staff from front desk to housekeeping were always happy to help you.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms on the higher floors. The corner rooms provide for maganificent views!

I loved this hotel. Small, elegant and trendy. Joy and Kimberly were very kind. I really liked the lobby with fireplace and books. So cozy. Rooms are small but well appointed and I love that everything still seems very fresh and new.

Conveniently placed within range of amazing places to eat and not far from lines 6,j,z,b,d makes it easy to get anywhere and do anything. We were on the 7th floor. From the moment we stepped foot into the hotel, the levels of service were the highest we had ever seen and not even remotely stuffy. The hotel staff were there to make our stay as great as possible. The rooms we were was compact, as you should expect in NY, but the views into uptown were amazing. We were far enough away from ther street not to be too bothered by the hooting of cars and natives, but I can understand why some guests might find it noisy. I say get used to it, NY is noisy you cant escape it. Our first day was a marathon, literally, we walked to the highline in the meatpacking district and from there into uptown and 5th avenue. Our feet were wrecked so when we got back to the hotel we took full advantage of the food concierge service where the hotel orders in food from local restaurants. What a life saver. One thing you must do at the hotel is go up to the roof and take in the views and do take the time to meet other guests at the cheese and wine gatherings in the lobby. overall Fantastic!

Room Tip: the higher the better

We stayed here for three nights in November 2012. It was out first time here, and I'd highly recommend it.

The hotel is "boutique" - meaning small in size (for NY/USA), cool/eclectic in design, with quirky touches. Those touches include free bikes or skateboards, cosy wine'n'cheese each evening, and a generally friendly in-the-know vibe about it.

Rooms are not large, but they are classy and well designed, with just enough space for luggage and everything else. We found it perfect, but then, we're Europeans :-) Our American cousins tend to demand larger room sizes! Our room had a working balcony (small, fun) with a view uptown or East to the bridge, and out over Kenmare Street.

Neighbourhood (neighborhood) is brilliant; near to Little Italy, to ChinaTown, SoHo, to the subway and lots of bus stops. We did a lot of walking and some running, and it was a brilliant for wherever we wanted to go.

It also has a roof terrace (was not is use in November, but I imagine its pretty special in Summer :-) Staff were also very helpful and made some good recommendations wrt eating/drinking in the area.

Anyway - I'd use it again.In fact, can't wait!

I stayed six nights here last month and while the reviews were glowing I somehow felt let down. It certainly wasn't the service, which on the whole was very good. As was the bonus coffee and pastry style breakfast and wi-fi (though during my stay I wouldn't describe it as blisteringly fast). But it was more things mentioned by other reviewers like size of the rooms (they are smaller than I expected compared to similar hotels in New York) and the front facing Kenmare Street (which is pretty noisy in the evenings as it's a funnel to Houston) and worst was the incomplete restaurant build which left a gaping hole to the lobby, which meant it was almost inhabitable and both staff and guests had to huddle around heaters most evenings enjoying the -1 degree temperatures. Why they couldn't build a temporary wall was really beyond me. Staff told me the build was meant to be completed by mid-December. Would I come back? Well my deal was excellent but when I asked for an upgrade to a corner room (which was larger), I was told this would cost me extra and they would only be a couple of days available. Strange when for almost the entire length of my stay on the seventh floor I would guess, from the lack of papers left at front doors, the place wasn't entirely full. Anyone staying for a week should feel some level of entitlement to a better room if they're going begging.

Room Tip: Either a corner room as these are larger and to the rear.

I spend 4 great nights in the Nolitan, you have everything at walk distance. Yes, it's true that the rooms are small(like most of NY hotels) but are really comfortable, I recommend booking rooms at upper floors and dont miss the incredible view at the terrace(..and carry a bottle of champagne to drink there). I WILL BE BACK!

Room Tip: upper floors, and if you can($) corner view.

Lovely hotel in Nolita. Perfect for those wanting to wander around soho and lower east side for shopping and restaurants. Also perfect to avoid touristy midtown NY. Really nice service and very friendly staff. The rooms are small but perfectly formed. 10 minutes cab ride from Williamsburg. Nice roof terrace with beautiful views. And they give you champagne in reception from 6 to 8 every night. What more do you need?
