After 21 years of marriage, my husband and I finally made it to NYC. We chose Colicchio and Sons as our "last night in NYC and we are going to splurge" restaurant. The dinner and the entire experience was worth every single penny we spent.
The restaurant is in the meat packing district and we took the subway and then walked the last 5 blocks or so. From the moment we stepped in the restaurant, we were treated as special guests. I watched other guests and we all received the same, wonderful service-so this wasn't a one-off.
Our server (I believe his name was Ed) was simply superb. You can always tell a professional server and the moment Ed came over to introduce himself, my husband and I knew we were in for a special treat.. Ed's assistants (we had 3 of them) were all fantastic as well. Ed knew we were there for a special occasion (my birthday).and welcomed us warmly.
The wine list (unsurprisingly) was very, very good and the sommelier went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied with the selections and our choice after the bottle was opened.
The chef offered us some lovely amuse bouches and the piece de resistance was the muffins they provided as we were leaving for our "breakfast" the next am.
The only event that made me stop and say "h-m-m, that was interesting) was when I saw one of the other serving assistants (not the 3 we had) drinking the rest of the wine in a glass the sommelier had used to test a bottle. The assistant was clearing the sommelier's table of glasses. I watched as she took the one glass that still had wine in it, pick it up, quickly drank it then walked off with the dirty glasses. Now, I know that is probably done back of the house sometimes, but to do so in the midst of the dining room was tacky. So tacky I almost spoke to the manager but decided to let it go.
Overall, it was a lovely experience and exactly the perfect restaurant to pick for our last night in NYC. Would recommend highly
