My girlfriend and I can't express enough how much we loved our stay at the San fermin apartments. Bernardo was always friendly but always professional and nothing was ever too much trouble. He always made himself available to offer advice with getting around town and sightseeing. The location was ideal as it was right next to the subway and was easy to get to. The room was everything we could hope for and even though we stopped at a few different hotels during our short tour of the states San Fermin was our favourite. I can honestly say that when we next visit New York we will make this our first choice.

Fabulous stay for our family of four at San Fermin. Little nervous staying in Harlem at the beginning but felt completely safe. Bernardo was an excellent host, gave us great tips on what to see in N.Y. And where the great restaurants were. We really got to see the real N.Y. Apartment very clean and a great size for our family. Would stay here again if we come back.

We stayed at San Fermin for 3 nights in September. Everything was spotless inside with really well styled rooms. Our room was at the rear of the property and was beautifully peaceful, Bernardo could not have been more helpful and gave us some great advice on how to get around Manhattan. I would recommend this establishment without hesitation

It was such a wonderful trip in New York and one of the most reason was and is Bernardo. He welcomed us so warmly as friend and gave us so many hints for trips. Honestly we only followed all his advices and saw in this way so much and enjoyed everything. Thank you so much for all, Bernardo.

Myself and my partner stayed at San Fermin the first week of September. Since then we can't get our New York experience out of heads! From day one and meeting Bernardo to our last day of gospel and brunch everything was just great. We can only reiterate what previous posters have said. San Fermin is homely, comfortable and spotless. The kitchenette was adequate for our breakfast of fruit and cereal and there is a microvave for re- heating/defrosting. Bernardo is a lovely man, full of humour, advice and information. We only met Maite briefly but evidence of her photography is everywhere.
Harlem became our neighbourhood. It is vibrant and friendly. People chat to you and like to help you if they can . We had great conversations with the staff at the Pathmark supermaket nearby! We visited the Shonberg centre, the Studio Gallery on 125th street and went to the amateur night at the Apollo theatre also on 125th (Harlem high st.).
The rest of New York was all in easy reach. The seven day Metro card is great value and easy to use on buses and the subway. Take the bus and you can see a lot for a fraction of the price of the open tops. Even on the number 3 bus from around the corner from Edgecombe it doen't take long to get to the top of central park and then down 5th avenue for the Guggenheim, Metropolitan museum, the Whitney museum for American art and many more attractions. Then there's walking . Further down 5th avenue you come across, or are near to, the Library, the Empire State building, Moma, Grand Central station, Times square, the Flatiron building, Washington square ( for Greenwich village). Distances seem to pass by easily when you're enjoying yourselves! The subway can get you to Brooklyn and Queens for skyline photos or the Staten island ferry for a free trip.
We travelled to more neighbourhoods in our week and were met by courtesy and friendliness wherever we went.
So,all in all, many thanks to the San Fermin, Harlem and New York for a truly memorable holiday.
P.s Our food tip would be Jacobs Soul food and salad bar restaurant on Lennox avenue for help yourself hot and cold buffet. You choose what you want, they weigh it and you pay accordingly. Tasty and really good value for New York.

Room Tip: Back rooms might be a little quieter

My two daughters (13 & 18) and I stayed at San Fermin in August 2013. The place is as clean and charming as other reviewers report. You feel very much at home from the moment you arrive.

Bernado is your host and was available each morning to help you plan your day. The subway is very close by and the best way to get around. We found Harlem enjoyable and safe - we were out till late most days and found some great places to eat within walking distance or a few subway stops away (try the Harlem Shake burger joint if you want a real 50's burger with fries experience).

Our room was great for 3 people - two big closets which easily fitted our belongings and bags. The bathroom was a good size and everything was very clean and neat. We stayed in a hotel in Times Square for our first two nights in NYC and then when we first arrived at San Fermin the kids were a bit wary - but after being in the hustle and bustle of Times Sq a couple of times again during our stay both in the day and night the kids were grateful to come home to the comfort and quiet of the San Fermin and Harlem. It was great for them to experience the real New York and not just the "tourist" experience. It was half the price of the hotel and a much better option.

Bernado's wealth of information and advice about where to go, eat, shop and how to get there was invaluable. Thankyou.

Based on TripAdvisor reviews I stayed at San Fermin in August 2012 and because I knew it was good I stayed again in July 2013. The location is lively and safe and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The first time I stayed my flight was delayed and I didn't arrive until the early hours of the morning - Bernardo was waiting outside to greet me. The second time I stayed I had an early departure and Bernardo was at my door at my departure time to help me with my luggage.
