Before I begin my review, I think I should note that I used a Buy One, Get One certificate and a free night anywhere certificate, so I paid about $400 total for my three night stay. Also, as an Intercontinental Ambassador, I get extra perks as a guest of the hotel.
Check in was very fast, even with all the certificates I was turning in. I had already been placed high on the 28th floor, and my special request of no feathers in the room had been taken care of. The room provided a nice view, and for the most part didn't have noise from the street. The room and bathroom were clean and good sized for Times Square. I thought the bed was a little soft, but that's just a personal preference.
I found three negatives, which keep this hotel from getting an excellent rating from me.
The first is that the internet was so slow it was barely useable. As an Ambassador, I get free internet, and since I was on vacation I wasn't a heavy user. However, if I were paying for the service, I probably would have requested a refund due to the speed problems.
The second issue was the television. The quality of many stations was poor, as the picture was fuzzy. Some stations, like the local FOX, didn't show up at all, while others would freeze on pictures and just play audio.
The third issue was the one that I found most annoying. When other doors in my area of the hallway closed (slammed?) the noise was very loud. Not only that, but it was so forceful that my door would rattle, waking me up seemingly every time someone opened their door. I would say that door closing was more disturbing than any street noise.
As I already mentioned, as an Ambassador I got free internet. I also got a bowl of fruit and daily bottled water. I received one free pay movie (it's nice to burn those on stuff you would normally not watch and never pay for). And when I needed to print a few pages, the Ambassador desk was happy to print them out, instead of sending me to the business center.
Overall, it was a good stay, with some easily correctable issues. I don't know if I would pay $400/night, but $400 for 3 nights was a great deal.
