“Lovely oasis in NYC!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We love staying at the Chatwal when in NYC specifically to see shows. The location is great if you want to be near Times Square. Easy walk anywhere. It is an elegant and cozy hotel and the service is outstanding! Titus worked with me ahead of time to get the right room configuration for our four rooms for all my family members who had different preferences. He is very professional and accommodating, taking care of whatever we needed before and during our stay. I agree with other reviewers that this is like staying in a lovely left-bank Parisian hotel...without the attitude! Oh, and definitely dine in the Hotel's restaurant - The Lamb's Club. It is fabulous! But a great choice for a fine special meal before or after a show.

Room Tip: The front rooms on lower floors can be noisy if there is something going on in the streets (like tra...

Open your mind and imagine Starwood, Westin and that rattling list of properties you would never stay at have nothing to do with this property. The Chatwal Hotel reminds of a few perfect small hotels I love in Paris like The Montaigne.

Having made the rounds this summer to no less than 17 hotels in Manhattan in the quest for the right one, The Chatwal Hotel now holds the title as reigning champion, for now at least. My #2 is the Greenwich Hotel followed by.. hold it, hold it..... The Andaz 5th Avenue (by Hyatt, believe it or not. Forget everything you dislike about Hyatt and go).

WHAT I LOVED:

- Sort of art deco/40's/30's style but not kitschy in an historic building

- Bespoke everything. They invested serious coin in this place. Serious, like SPG had something to prove.

- The Lamb's Club restaurant and mezzanine bar - smoldering style in red, black and white. Alive, little jazz singer thing going sometimes.

-My room was 206, Perfection and I don't toss that around because everyone knows what a pain I am about hotels. Trust me on this I am not going into detail. OK, a little. The closet and cabinetry are fashioned after handcrafted luggage, similar to a LV steamer trunk as a concept. So original, solid. Sets the place apart from the rest.

- Washroom par excellence. Toto, massive shower.

- I had the outdoor patio. Looks nice but the sound of the aircon equipment and faux plants make it well, tacky. The only thing I found out of place so don't pay extra for the terrace, I'm my opinion.

- Staff - super attentive without being obsequies. Cool and reserved in NYC way but friendly.

- Breakast pastries that could put La Duree out of business.

Merci Le Chatwal, je t'aime. But we are a fickle bunch so please keep it interesting... ;-)

Spent 5 nights here in late August for our first trip to NYC. The hotel is centrally located just off of Times Square but avoids the huge crowds which dominate the tourist area. You are within a 30 minute walk of all of the main tourist attractions, and could walk to the High Line in approx. 40 mins.

Staff were friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.

We stayed in a Junior Suite which was a good sized room in a city where small rooms seem to be the norm.

Spent a week's holiday with my girlfriend at this place and it was non stop satisfaction.

The decoration is so good we are thinking of emulating it for when we get our own place, the service was fantastic from start to finish (with the butler ironing the odd shirt for me a wonderful touch!), even on one night when the local works caused water issues they supplied us with us much bottled water as we could need.

If you want to truly experience New York and come home every night to a place that fits in perfectly with the city, couldn't recommend a better spot.

The only thing that disappointed me was that we paid extra to have a room with a terrace and a bath, however when I experienced the terrace the noise of the nearby ventilation units was like a jet engine right next to the terrace, I would have preferred street noise to this (room 702 I think it was)

Room Tip: If you pay extra for a terrace, ask for a forward facing one onto the street.

We stayed between 4 - 8 september 2014.
We arrived very late due to cancelled flight. The greeting was nice, Everything was set as its supposed to and a "walk-through" in the room with Steven from the hotel to get us settled. The location of the hotel couldnt be better, very Close to times Square and Walking distance to a lot of good restaurants and sightseeing (Lambs club restaurant is actually in the hotel so that couldnt be closer). The staff is very kind and eager to help. Everything from smaller requests to late check out. We stayed in a junior suit which had a large and comfortable bathroom with big shower (rain-shower) TV in the mirror (cool) and a toilet with "special features" (cleaning you for ex.;). The room itself has a special design to it with lots of grey earthy colours and formed almost like a hallway that at first didnt do me anything but when you sit in the other end of the room you get the feeling. I dont agree with a Review i read regarding bad beds cause i thought they were nice. Housekeeping came twice a day, once for cleaning and one more time to prepare the bed for sleeping and changing waterbottles etc. Thanks housekeeping, very satisfied.
Two requests were not fulfilled.. first we asked for a iphone charger and an adapter cause we couldnt find it in the room. It never came but we found the adapter later that day in one of the drawers. Second request was to fill up the champagne bucket with ice, top score if that had been done. If there was a scale from 1 to 10 Chatwal would receive a 9 but now its 1-5 and its not fair to hand out a 4 so 5 it is. Hope to visit/see u soon again

My wife and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. This hotel is truly five-star. It is within the theater district and incredibly convenient for Midtown Manhattan. We were greeted by virtually every staff person we met and the service was top notch. Titus, the front desk manager, was especially helpful and served us well. We look forward to staying in this hotel again in the future.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms on the back of the hotel which is facing south. Unfortunately, times square is just a...

We go to NYC 1-2x/year and like to stay near Times Square. This was our first booking at The Chatwal. The hotel is beautiful with modern room decor, but what makes it special is the level of service provided by everyone on staff, especially Titus at the front desk and Steven at the door. They were professional, friendly, engaging in conversation, and interested in how they could make our stay exceptional. Although the price is more expensive than many others in the area and the service at other hotels is good, this trip has me convinced that all future stays should be at The Chatwal. Very, very impressive. - Brian and Jilanne
