This is the second time I've stayed at the Chatwal, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I am only a SPG Gold, but I talked to a real, live human to make the reservation (he was fantastic), and he made a note requesting an upgrade. They certainly did. I was given a 2-room suite -- one room was TV/Living Room (with bathroom), the other room was a standard hotel room. Not the standard configuration, but it was great having a separate living area. I came in after a long day and went to the hotel bar for dinner. On a Saturday after 9:00 p.m., it was completely empty, and I received great service from the bartender and a great burger (although expensive, of course). The service everywhere was fantastic--attentive, courteous, and professional. It's on the higher end of my budget, but if you want to splurge and are a SPG loyalist, this is a great property in NYC. It's close to the theater district and Times Square, but doesn't have the noise of some other hotels. Tip is to request a quiet room on the alley -- the view isn't great, but I cherish the quiet more. The bathroom is definitely "Euro" and you can't be shy with all the mirrors, but the shower is just divine. if you can swing it, stay here! They also let me change clothes at the SPA since my room wasn't ready -- after seeing the private rooms, next time I will book an appointment! It looked great. This is definitely a "boutique" type hotel that is more personal than the W or Westin.
