“Average place at a good price, ideal for friends”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

The address we stayed at was 336 W 46th, we were contacted through SMS by the owner and never saw him (we didn't need to actually).
The apartment was clean enough, with little furniture. The only chair was broken, as was the futon, but you could still place its mattress on the floor.
The location was ideal for us, very close to the ComicCon and Times Square, there were tons of pubs around as well (one on the first floor too). It didn't get too noisy at night, but we went to bed pretty late, so this might be an issue for other people.
All in all an average place at a good price that suits a week-end between friends very well.

We didn't have any problems that have been brought up on the other reviews, it was clean when we arrived and the location is excellent, you pop your head out the door and you can see times square down the road. The owner was back in touch within the hour with any questions we had, although we were told when we booked there was a hot tub, his idea of a hot tub is a bath with hot water. There is no swimming pool/hot tub/fitness centre. Also the website says there is a pool table, although it isn't on the property it is in the Irish bar below. Considering its location and that it is placed above an Irish bar, the noise levels were not too bad. Although we never saw any staff when we were there, our keys were placed in a safebox outside the room that we were told the code for. The only downside was the front door from the street didn't lock which was a bit of a safety issue. I would recommend it to my friends, excellent prices for travellers.

I saw that someone complained there wasn't a plug in the bath, there was a switch that stopped the water going down the plughole, not a plug.

Excellent location, but the apartment was rather grim. We were “upgraded” at the owner's instigation to a 3-room instead of a 2-room apartment. Nice, but...
Over previous weeks we were told by email 3 times that there was no child's travel cot, even though one was advertised with the flat. We made efforts to borrow one from friends, but in the end one was available in the flat anyway. Embarrassing and frustrating. The owner had told me that we would be given 2 sets of keys, as we were 5 adults who would at times wander separately. In the event there was a combination key box bolted onto the apartment door in which there was just one set of keys - we could live with that but see below...
As for the flat itself, we found that most of the ceiling lights in the living room and kitchen area did not work, and all the curtains were flimsy, ineffective and could not be drawn back. There was no washing machine as advertised for the flat we booked. You had to go from one bedroom through another to get to the bathroom - not convenient.
We had to ask for a tin opener, there were two broken items of furniture, no plug in the bath, a plug that did not work in the bathroom sink, 2 doors onto a terrace which could not be locked, and no hanging space in one of the bedrooms. The decorating left a lot to be desired. The batteries in a TV remote were dead. The unlockable terrace doors and trailing electrical wires in every room meant that the flat was not "child friendly" as advertised. It was however nice to have air conditioning, and free wi-fi in the flat. It was not noisy, despite being over a bar.
On our last day a housekeeper arrived at 9:30 to strip the bed linen. I had an email that morning from the owner asking if we were leaving before the deadline of 11am, and offering us the option of leaving our luggage in the flat until 4pm (as our flight was not until late evening). I replied that we would go by 10:30, and thanked him for the helpful offer of leaving our luggage. We returned at 4pm to be met by the housekeeper who handed me her phone so that the owner could tell me that checkout time was 11am not 4pm, and that I should not have changed the combination lock on the key box (which we had been told to do by the housekeeper who let us in when we first arrived).
Summary: great location; apartment could be made a lot better with very little effort; the owner is not very competent and rather unpleasant.

Room Tip: Ours was the apt on the 1st floor (2nd floor to north americans).

I travelled with my family to New York this summer and we decided to stay at the West 46th Street apartments and it turned out to be a great decision. The beds were really comfortable, the location was perfect and it had a little kitchen for us to prepare breakfast and meals we didn't want to eat out. I would definitely recommend staying here.
