“Super House Super Rick”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

How are you Rick? Thank you so much for all the Inspiration you gave to us. We had a great stay in NYC , even if we only saw a few of that things you recommended to us. Your House is great and reminded us on a very well private hotel with very stilish interior in our pretty large room. Somehow the location actually give us the impression of being in that surrounding where the Cosby Show House was filmed. We loved your paintings and of course our talking. There is one little thing, we are not that sure about: sometimes we felt a kind of being watched in Harlem, even if we met a lot of nice poeple there. Conclusion: super house super rick.

The third time we have stayed here
The host Rick is a dude and so knowledgeable about the Manhattan
This is a special place; with delightful rooms; in what is now becoming a trendy neighborhood
Returning on the subway (completely safe- and we had our kids with us) from the hurly burly of downtown (fun, yes) to the quiet of a residential street and an historic street and house was always a pleasure....

I was at Rick's in 2009 and I loved it!. Few years after I am back with my dad (September 13) he was really impressed with the house and the rest, we stayed for 5 days, everything was a success!!. We had a wonderful time, Rick knows how to take care of his guests, knowledgeable like no one about Manhattan and Harlem (music, gigs, art, restaurants, etc...). His house is beautiful full of history and well connected for all forms of public transport and easy to get from JFK Airport. To have breakfast (healthy) in the morning is like being at home, sharing the table with the other guest and Rick, a pleasant start of the day. The neighborhood is very nice and special, locals are very friendly and helpful.
It's a different way to stay and visit NYC, thanks Rick!

The house is just wonderful - beautifully decorated and comfortable. The host, Rick, is the most interesting and entertaining man who will provide you with a wealth of information about Manhattan and how to get around the island. The house is well situated for all forms of public transport and has a fantastic jazz bar/restaurant just around the corner (Londel's) which provides the perfect end to an evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Harlem. The locals were friendly, helpful and wanted to give a good impression of the area. We found the subway to be perfectly safe and the easiest way to travel to and from Harlem at any time of day or night. It took no more than 30-40 minutes to get from Harlem to the southern most point of Manhattan.

Room Tip: The house is in a pretty quiet road and all the rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. If...

Technically, this should be the number 1 Harlem B&B because San Fermin and Easyliving do not include breakfast. Sorry but I thought that was an essential part of being a B&B - otherwise, you are just a B (for bed)!

Incidentally, breakfast time at Harlem Renaissance House is the absolute highlight - not only do you not have to worry about finding food in the morning (which isn't hard, as this place is surrounded by cafes and restaurants and shops and great self-serve soul food buffets) but you also get all the insider info from Rick. He was the first white guy to move into the street many many years ago, which gives him an interesting insight into how much Harlem has changed over the years. He'll assure you how safe and friendly it is, where the best bars are - within walking distance, where you can chat to locals, where to listen to the best jazz (hint: not in Manhattan), and generally how to make the most of your time in New York.

I stayed as a solo female, loved my room, the spotless bathroom, the gorgeous house, the QUIET leafy street, use of the washing machine (thanks Rick!), and the fresh fruit and pastry for a healthy start to the day (if you're a big eater, maybe ask in advance if they can stock up on eggs or toast or whatever). The location is great. I've stayed all over Manhattan and Brooklyn, but Harlem feels more real. And peaceful. Opposite of its image. Quick train ride downtown, but I mostly hung around the neighbourhood because it was more fun. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Every room is quiet and spacious and clean.

Rick is a very pleasant host, very welcoming and full of advice and reccomendations on what to do and see.
Rooms are beautiful, very clean and comfortable.
Free wi-fi
Excellent breakfast.
The house is five minutes walk to four subway lines, you can reach Times Square in 15 minutes.
I hope to return to New York and of course I would not stay anywhere else.
I highly reccomend Rick's B&B to anyone.
