“Home from home in the Big Apple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

Monica and Larry made us feel at home during our stay here with my parents. My partner and I stayed in the studio on the first floor and my parents had the adjoining suite (which can be opened into one large floor if you wish). The bed was very comfortable and the facilities in the studio were great (it was great being able to watch TV from the comfort of our bed as well!). The studio faces the main road which has the usual sounds of a local street in New York, but this wasn't a problem for us and we were able to sleep with the window slightly ajar without being woken up. There are plenty of large windows at the front of the building and high ceilings, so the room felt very spacious and light. The fruit bowl and flowers were a lovely touch! There are plenty of local deli's and cafes nearby serving great breakfast. Easy to travel to the downtown area either by bus (which is one block away) or the subway.

If you want something a bit special and to get more of a local feel than a chain hotel, then this is for you.

We have just returned home after a 6 night stay in Monica and Larry's wonderful property. We rented a suite and adjoining studio - both were superb - very clean and very comfortable. We particularly appreciated Monica's helpfulness and she really did go out of her way to make sure we got the most out of our visit. We have stayed in NYC many times but really enjoyed the Upper West side location - great amenities and eating places but a very quick subway ride to all the usual attractions. Highly recommended and we will certainly return!

I am very pernickity about accommodation when travelling and research extensively before booking. I also prefer to stay in small B& Bs or apartments as I believe the standards are higher and you can live like a local, which enhances the overall experience.

As a result of my research I decided on The West Townhouse and I can say with absolute conviction that it was the best decision I made.

My husband and I spent an absolutely amazing week in New York and our stay at The West Townhouse added immeasurably to our stay.

The apartment was beautiful, after a full days sightseeing, returning to our immaculate flat, to the most comfortable bed was just bliss.

This apartment has been upgraded to the highest standard, retaining the original features, whilst integrating modern comforts in a really tasteful and sympathetic manner. Monica shared the background of the building with us which was fascinating.

I loved the lion head in the fireplace!

Monica was lovely and provided us with so much useful information, from local supermarkets, to how to get the best from the subway, to free concerts taking place in Central park.

This is the most beautiful building in a great area of New York City, just one block from Central Park and the subway.

I can highly recommend it and fully intend to stay there again when I visit New York again.

Can't wait!

Thank you so much for everything Monica & Larry

Room Tip: We stayed in apartment 4F on the first floor overlooking the street. Could occasionally be a bit noi...

We just completed a stay this week in a studio room. The owner is precious and the location perfect for us. It was close to Central Park, buses and the Subway 1 train which runs north/south through Manhattan. The room was clean and well furnished. The price was in line with what one would expect for the Upper West Side. The kitchen is large enough for a couple and had ample dishes and pots. The bath had a shower with one set of towels per person for the week. We prefer more and brought our own. All in all it was a great place to stay and we has a wonderful time.

I attempted to book here for 4 nights but their offer of accommodation was promptly withdrawn - and the price went up by $20/night - when I did not immediately agree to their suggestion of staying 5 nights instead of 4. Furthermore, it took 3 days before they replied to my initial email inquiry.

Travellers thinking of staying here might also like to note that the West Townhouse do not accept credit cards or PayPal but require payment by wire transfer. (This is not stated on their web site.) I contacted my bank who informed me that they charged 25GBP for a wire transfer to the US.

Many other B&Bs, guesthouses and hotels in New York give definite information about availability on-line and accept payment of a deposit by credit card using a secure on-line system, which is simpler and cheaper for the client.

It was a perfect stay from our first contact with Monica via email to our checkout. Monica welcomed us and showed us around our room, gave us keys and assured us that she was there if we needed anything. The studio with its ten foot high ceilings, tasteful decor and comfortable bed was spacious, bright and fully equipped with modern appliances. We enjoyed having breakfast in the morning and often re-heated take-out from nearby gourmet grocery stores after a full day in NYC. Next time, we'll plan on trying the many small neighborhood restaurants. The subway was close by and we loved coming back to the upper west side. We stayed in one of the studios and had a peek at one of the suites. We would be tempted to stay in one of the suites which would be a little quieter, but we loved 4F and felt like home there. We appreciated the thoughtful gestures that were made such as a binder full of restaurant menus, brochures from museums, maps, coffee, fresh flowers and fruit. This is excellent value in comparison to a hotel room. The bathroom was small, but modern and clean.

Room Tip: If one person likes to stay up later, then a suite would be better for a little more. The suites in...
