“Excellent service; sleek; everything worked!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2010

This hotel was really nice! I had a wedding to attend this past Friday and simultaneously needed to send an urgent item by e-mail the same evening. The wireless internet in the hotel worked flawlessly and I was able to send my file before going to the wedding, which helped alleviate a lot of the day's stress.

The hotel staff were very knowledgeable, answered questions (like how long it would take me to get from the hotel to the wedding location at rush hour), and were very polite - all the way from confirming and updating my reservation, to check-in, to the bar and restaurant staff to checkout.

The bartender in the evening was helpful in answering questions about tourist sites and the staff for breakfast the next morning were equally accommodating. I was even able to get a hot breakfast for a very reasonable $12 (plus tax and tip)! That's tough to find in a New York City hotel. The menu had hot and cold breakfast choices, along with a buffet, and appeared to be accommodating to both North American and European tastes. The breakfast room / bar had a sleek almost Asian feel. It reminded me a bit of the breakfast room of a Japanese ryokan I stayed in once near Tokyo - only more modern - very nice.

The rooms were very clean and well-designed - kindof Scandinavian / Pottery Barn look. The room itself and the bathroom were very clean - the latter having good water pressure and hot water. The clock, TV, and closet safe all worked well (and I mentioned earlier that the internet access worked well). The TV was nicer than what I have at home - and no annoying hotel marketing channels like you see in some places. I got to the hotel a couple of hours before I had to leave for the wedding, so was able to hang out my clothes beforehand and didn't have to use the iron and ironing board in the room - but they were there if you needed them. I had some work to do while in NYC and so booked on an upper floor that worked out well in terms of not having traffic noise being a distraction.

The weather was good, so I walked from the train station to the hotel and then to the wedding on 52nd St. without any trouble. I think if I had wanted to take a taxi though, I would have walked out to 8th or 9th Ave instead of trying to get one right in front of the hotel as the traffic on 40th St. seemed pretty congested.

The lobby area was nice - coffee there in the morning if you didn't want a full breakfast - along with newspapers and computer workstations for quick internet access, and a small seating area for waiting for friends, or whatever. Security seemed to be appropriate with a discreet security guard in the lobby as well as special key card access for the elevators and rooms. The hotel didn't have a fitness center per se, but offered passes to a nearby club, which unfortunately I didn't have time to check out.

Staying at this hotel really helped make my visit enjoyable and as stress-free as you can get when going to NYC. Thanks for a great stay.

The Distrikt Hotel is located next to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, close to Times Square, making it perfect for our needs - a week of touring NY. The rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable with all the expected facilities. The staff were particularly helpful. A handy internal restaurant - though busy - got the day going with a choice of brekkies. While good hotels in NY like these are not cheap, the Distrikt's rates were competitive.

We spent hours reviewing New York hotels and had loads of personal recommendations from family and friends about where to stay but in the end we went with the reviews on trip advisors and we are so glad we did. We had a fabulous time at this hotel and can't fault it. Don't worry about the location at all as it just felt like many other streets and we felt perfectly safe day and night. We came in from JFK on the train/subway and it was cheap, easy and took about an hour. We stayed in a deluxe room on the 18th floor and had plenty of space and a great shower. Thank you to the hotel staff that added little touches to my 40th birthday getaway.

I read the good reviews here on tripadvisor, and was expecting an above average boutiqe hotel. I wasn't disappointed! The hotel still has that "new" feel. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was very spacious and clean, and had a great city view. The location is great - we walked most places, and took the subway a few times, with a station located only a couple blocks away. Being on a side street, you don't have the noise of Times Square. You also don't have all the lights at night, and you do have to pass an "adult" establishment in the next block. We stilll felt fairly safe walking, as there are a couple other hotels next door, and all had doormen stationed outside.. We stayed a total of 4 nights, and would definitely return!

Based on reviews and a good price, we stayed at The Distrikt for 3 nights over Columbus Day weekend. The location is perfect. We love to walk, and with its location on 40th between 8th and 9th we walked both up to many museums and down to Soho, lower east side, etc. A theater performance and pre-theater dinner were a short walk away. If you like smaller hotels, great service, fresh and clean rooms, and a very good price, you'll be pleased with The Distrikt Hotel!

Stayed at Distrikt for the NYC marathon weekend and it was exceptional! Everything from the sizable rooms (for a boutique hotel in NYC) to the cleanliness was extraordinary. But the most amazing aspect was that on one of the busiest weekends in NYC the service was unbelievably gracious. We are planning a return trip, for no reason in particular, because they made our NYC marathon experience beyond compare!
