“Comfortable but didn't like the neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

I suppose small hotel rooms are the norm in NYC, but these rooms are definitely very small. I was very spoiled during my first two stays in the city because I was able to book a 5-star hotel at amazing rates. For our third stay, we couldn't find the same deal so we opted for The Distrikt instead. The styling and comfort of the hotel was great, but we did not like the location. Despite reading reviews warning of the location, we thought it wouldn't be such a big deal. Unfortunately every night walking back to the hotel meant walking directly in front of the Parole Office a few buildings down. I'm all for giving people second chances, but I was slightly uncomfortable everytime I walked by, especially at night, since there was always a group of men standing around outside who stared at those walking by. If the Distrikt was in a different location, I would stay again. On a positive note, they did send up a birthday card and a dessert on my birthday. The staff was extremely nice and very helpful.

We understand that Distrikt is a bit off the 5 star trail in NYC, and though you weren't a fan of our location, we are still proud to have earned such high marks. Thank you for your recognition of our team members and amenities. If you ever consider giving us another try, please let us know so we may steer you towards one of our more spacious rooms.

Don't be put off by the immediate area, the Distrikt hotel is well placed, being as it is opposite the Port Authority bus station making it ideal for bus and metro connections to all areas of New York. You're also merely minutes from Times Square and all the delights of the Big Apple but one of those delights is the hotel itself. The rooms are excellent, well equipped and quiet (we were on floor 20). The staff are so helpful and genuinely friendly. We had a slight problem with our shower, reported it as we went to breakfast and by the time we were back to our room it had been fixed. The only thing to be aware of is that if it is busy at breakfast, there can be a slight delay as they only have a small team on duty so bear this in mind if you have to be somewhere by a certain time. The food though is great, there is a nice choice and the cooked breakfast is very tasty. We didn't make use of the bar in the evening as we were always out but it seemed popular. All in all a really marvellous hotel, well located and equipped and comes highly recommended.

Thank you very much for your lovely review of Distrikt and for your recommendation on TripAdvisor. It means everything to us that when you did encounter a problem, we were able to fix it immediately. We are working on making our breakfast a bit more smooth in service, adding on a few team members so we can get everyone in and out quickly and efficiently. We do hope you will be returning to the city and that we get to welcome you back soon.

The Distrikt is tucked away which we were initially a little concerned about but were very quickly won over by the great facilities and even better staff at the hotel. In our 3 day stay we were welcomed as friends and made to feel really comfortable. Ledash at breakfast was simply superb. Highly recommended.

After we arrived on a long flight we were warmly welcomed by the staff and were given free hot cider (on dispense in the lobby - excellent after a long day in the cold December weather)

Staff gave us extremely useful map and advice on all sorts of matters, including quickest ways to get the subway and how to get to the Metlife stadium so we could watch the American Football team, the Giants.

Like many other people on here, as it was our anniversary we also got a delightful celebratory cheesecake from the hotel. We were also given the weather update for the day each day, newspaper and little notes welcoming us from the hotel. These small touches make every bit of difference to your stay and made us feel welcomed and valued guests.

The room was spotless, we stayed on the very top floor with a view of the river north and into the times square area. The shower was possibly one of the best Ive ever been in, and we were provided with robes which makes you feel at home. There was also a fantastic tea/coffee machine which did everything for you, great after a long day sight-seeing!

Overall, fantastic hotel and great value for money considering its location. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend anyone else to stay.

Great hotel where we stayed 6 nts. Reservation was easy to make, checkin smoothly and very friendly staff. Room very nice and not small (mostly it is inNY). Lucky to have a nice view on the Hudson. Location is close to port authorities so easy access to subway. Busy area and many hotels and shops. Breakfast outside was great at Amy's Bread, 7 min. Walk

This hotel is in the Port Authority area. Not the first idea as a great place to stay. This hotel was clean, the rooms were relatively new. Located between 8th and 9th Avenue and 40th. Great transportation hub...cabs, buses, subway convenience. The general food choices were a bit grim, but bright pockets abounded. In general, I would recommend this place to NyC newbies or big groups. The staff was super friendly. Only thing I didn't like was the bell men hustling car services. When I ask for a taxi, give me a taxi. That is something management should look into...or get rid of. Other than that, I would recommend this place if you are in town for a couple of days.

Thanks so much for your review on TripAdvisor. We wish we could have introduced you to some amazing restaurants on 9th Avenue, maybe next time! We apologize for the overzealous bellman, we have addressed this and agree it simply should not happen.
