“Terrific location raises adequate to a "find"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

The MAve is a nice little hotel. Perfectly adequate rooms, breakfast and gym which because of its location on Madison and 28th (I could be off by a street), just towers over other options. Close enough to walk to Penn Station and the offices near there, or Union Sq. in the other direction, with many subway options and great restaurants and bars within two/three blocks, make it a very convenient hotel for business and holidays.
There's a great bar/restaurant right next door serving great Cheese Steaks, burgers and an awesome collection of boutique and gourmet beers.
It's a little touch and go as far as the rooms are concerned - some terrific options while others are small and noisy with views of walls.
Great staff - helpful and smiling all the while. Less than satisfactory breakfast - just a variety of breads and coffee/tea.

We stayed in the MAve hotel the last week in November. It was our first time in New York. Staff were friendly and helpful- allowed us to leave bags prior to check in and check out, assisted with travel arrangements and helped answer any touristy queries. Felicia was very helpful. Room was small but had all we needed (let's face it who's sitting in their room all day in New York??) bathroom was very nice and seemed to have been recently updated. Room was spotless and house keeping came everyday. Other reviews I've seen have mentioned noise but this wasn't an issue for us. Location was definitely the selling point- so central and just a couple of minutes from subway for travel. Only reason I've not rated it five star is the breakfast- this was served in the lobby and always felt a bit disorganised and there was nowhere really to sit- we just went to Essen across the road most days which was great. Had a great time though thanks the MAve would return again!:-)

Stayed at the Mave for 9 nights on October. The hotel has a great location in the Flatiron District, a few blocks away from 28th and 23rd Metro stations (though I recommend using 23rd St. station since it is a much nicer walk, across Madison Square Park. There is a 24hour store across the street named Essen, where you can eat or take out food, which turns out to be very convenient. Next door to the hotel you have a bar called Shortys, where you can enjoy a beer and have a decent philly cheese stake if you feel like it.

Having read many reviews complaining about the average room size, we opted for a Boulevard King, on the 9th floor, which is the largest room the hotel offers, and it turned out to be quite comfortable for two. There is plenty of space for stowing luggage, hanging space and drawers for clothes. Bathroom is spacious, and the shower large enough for two. (Our room had a bathroom with standard shower curtains, as opposed to the glass panes you see in the pictures. Maybe that´s why the floor didn´t flood as bad as many other reviewers mention). The window-mounted AC worked fine, but it was loud. Not unbearable, but I would recommend earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Coffee and pastries are served at the lobby in the morning. You can either take them up to your room, or have them on the go, since there are only two chairs to sit in the area, and it tends to get rather crowded. By no means I would call this breakfast, but it´s complimentary and therefore a nice touch. There is a coffee maker in the room also.

Housekeeping was efficient and kept the room clean, toiletries, coffee and cream replaced daily. My only complaint would be that our sheets were not changed during our whole stay (9 nights).

Check in and check out was fast, and staff courteous.

I would stay at the Mave again, mainly based on it´s great location and reasonable rates for NY standards.

My lady and I in NYC for the weekend…usual annual conference to attend sand then on to some fun. Found The MAve on line, read the reviews and thought "why not"? Certainly didn't want to spend the outrageous sums asked by some Midtown hotels - company money or not. The MAve fit the bill extremely well. Very friendly staff from check-in to check-out. Moved us to a lower floor when we checked in with no issues at all. Room is small - but adequate size - this is a boutique hotel in NYC after all. Spotless bathroom, Duravit fixtures, fluffy towels. Very comfy bed. Window unit A/C heater combo…a little noisy at times but world well. Street noise was as expected in NYC on the weekend. Grab and Go breakfast acceptable as well. Location was very good for exploring Chelsea, Greenwich Village etc etc. Even a reasonable half hour walk up to Central Park. All in all well worth the money and we would stay here again.

This hotel is well situated for many of the top attractions to see in NYC, if you are looking for somewhere to flop after a busy day sightseeing, then this hotel is to be considered. If you are looking for a nice restaurant to eat in at said hotel, forget about it. there's no restaurant, no toilets in foyer, minimal food left out at breakfast, plenty of coffee at said breakfast and a good bar next down called "SHORTY'S". So if you are looking for a bit of luxury, go some where else, but if you just want to get out and explore Newww York, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: We were booked in to room 801, a bit twee, you could watch the telly from the toilet quite easy but...

Recently returned from a 4 night stay at the MAve with my partner.
We were in NYC primarily for a Xmas shopping and the location was excellent for this, being very close to 2 tube lines, and centrally located.
The staff at the hotel were excellent - very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay an enjoyable one.
The room was large from what we have experienced previously in NYC - we had a boulevard king, and it was cleaned and dressed to a good standard (though the coffee machine reservoir could have used a deep clean).
The main issue here (and the reason why it didn't get 5 stars) is the noise from Maddison avenue - because the air conditioning unit went directly to the street, there was a fair amount of traffic noise through the night. The hotel supply ear plugs on request - I had my own - but was still woken by early morning traffic noise most days. My partner didn't have a problem with waking from the noise, so I guess it depends how heavy a sleeper you are. Having stayed in NYC previously, I expected traffic noise through the night, but it seemed louder here than where we previously stayed in the lower east side.
All in all, I was happy with the stay, it was reasonably priced, located centrally and I would definitely consider staying again.
