“Second Time Just as Good as the First”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

Recently we stayed for three days at Staybridge Suites for the NYC Marathon. Having had a wonderful stay there in March, I didn't see how they could match that level of service on Marathon weekend - yet they did! They adjusted their breakfast schedule to accommodate the runners on both Saturday & Sunday and seem to have extra staff on hand. We called at 10:30pm on a Sunday night to say both bulbs had gone out in one of the bathroom lights. (We still had adequate light so I assumed they'd wait until morning.) Within 15 minutes, we had someone up to our room replacing both bulbs. Breakfast staff worked endlessly clearing plates and refilling the food to keep this big eating crowd of runners fed and seated. The only down side to this excellent hotel is that as they continue to get 4 and 5 start satisfaction rating from their customers, availability is tightening and pricing (along with all NYC hotels) is creeping up. Bottom line, I highly recommend this place as a great place for business or pleasure in NY but book early.
One more thing - I accidentally spilled a little water near the dishwasher. I grabbed a paper towel to wipe it up. To my delight, the paper towel showed no dirt. The floor was clean! Since the maids had recently come, this is what I would expect, but I can assure you, it isn't what you always get in a hotel.

Midtown Manhattan is expensive. Food is expensive, hotels are expensive with tiny rooms. The Staybridge is a great value. Rooms are tiny, yes, but they've managed to cram a full kitchen into their suites. They also provide free continental breakfast and evening receptions. I wish the rooms were bigger, we like room to spread out when we travel, and so for that reason we'll be staying at doubletree suites in future, but the staybridge is a better value. they're very reasonably priced, on the edge of times square, and overall we were happy. just wish the rooms weren't so tiny, even though i know that's just the price of staying in midtown. they were clean.
be warned, the showers are very small, an overweight person is going to have trouble.

There are also numerous options when comes to hotels in NYC, and in the last decade, I’ve stayed in over a dozen of them in all price range and locations throughout the city. However, I’ve never encountered such courtesy and hospitality of staff as I have at the Staybridge Hotel.

Although I was initially a little skeptical about its location, being that it was directly behind the Port Authority Bus Terminal, it turned out to be an ideal location as far as getting around in the city, as it was extremely central and close to everything.

I’d initially chosen the hotel as it had all the amenities that we were look for and needed while traveling with a young child, but what I didn’t expect was that the staff at the hotel surpassed my expectation when it came to their level of service and courtesy they offered not only to me but also to our little boy.

Also, the suites are absolutely perfect for parents traveling with their children, as every room is equipped with full kitchen and utensils, and the complimentary breakfast was extensive and offered a nice variety.

I would definitely stay there again the next time I return to the city.

Our three-night mini-vacation in NYC was made even better by the fine service at Staybridge Suites. Centrally located and within easy walking distance of everything and anything in the heart of Manhattan, we didn't need our car once during our stay. Complementary full breakfast each morning was the fuel we needed for active days and nights on the town, enjoying the sights and sounds, the dining and theatre. Special shout-out to the sweet & effervescent Arjeta who showed that it's the people who play the biggest part in making guests feel great. We can't wait to come back to New York. And when we do, it will be at Staybridge Suites.

After staying at the Sheraton, moving to the Staybridge was a treat. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms...The rooms was clean, new and well maintained. The location was good, near the fashion district and hell's kitchen. The street that it is on is a little sketchy, but felt safe walking.

The only criticism that I would have is that it took some time to get an elevator, otherwise it was a great stay.

We've spent the period from Nov.8-Nov.11, 2011 there.
Although the NYC Marathon was only the weekend before, the hotel had managed the in-and-out of the guests in a perfect way.

Check in is at 4pm only and the checkout is at 11am, so you have to plan your trip well.

The hotel itself is located in the shadows of the Port Authority Bus terminal on 40th street in the Garnment District.

Times Square is a 10 Min. walk only and penn Station is 15min away.

The neighborhood is not top notch, but still fine. Lots of business and restaurants in walking distance help to survive.

Good:
Location, location, location.
Rooms are nice and rather quiet.
Kitchenette available in the rooms
Staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful!
Breakfast and 5pm snacks are included
Rooms are nice; The higher up the less noise you have!

Not so good:
Elevators are slow and sometimes overcrowded.
Windows are not closing very well, so the noise from the streets is present.
The walls are rather thin....depending on the neighbor.

Total:
Perfect hotel for the price, extra-friendly staff and absolutely recommendable!

Stayed for 4 nights in November and really liked the room. Very clean (hotel pretty new) and room was comfy. Had a king room with a kitchen. Didn't cook but it's nice to have dishes if you want to get take out and eat in the room. Also loved have a kitchen sink and paper towels for cleaning up. Kitchen has everything, full fridge, ice maker, two burners, coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher.

There is a nice laptop safe in the closet so you can stow away your electronics and any valuables without worrying. Bathroom was a good size. I was traveling alone so plenty of room for one. For two people it might get a little cramped depending on how much luggage you had.

I had a room on the 16th floor, directly across from elevator. Yes, you could hear people talking as they exit the elevator but there are only 6 or 8 rooms on each floor so you really don't get a lot of traffic. Not a problem unless you go to bed early. Everyone coming back to the hotel between 11 and 11:30 after the shows let out.

Read a lot about slow elevator times and didn't really have a problem. Never had to wait more than 3 or 4 minutes. I can see how it could be a problem tho, with three elevators and the staff use them as well. They aren't really big either so if people are checking out in the morning you could probably only fit 4 or 5 people with their luggage.

The neighborhood is fine and safe. Yes, the bus station is across the street but it's the back of the building and people don't exit this side. Also, there are 4 hotels in a row so lot's of tourists coming and going. There is a parole office but never saw anyone. It's not like ex-cons loiter outside parole offices, it's probably the last place they want to be seen! Don't worry about the neighborhood. I was a woman traveling alone and never felt like there was a problem.

I also drove into the city. The parking garage is right next door and costs $28 a day with no in-out privileges. You leave your keys with the attendant and wheel your luggage about 25 feet to the front door of the hotel.

Breakfast does get crowded. Served 6:30 am - 10:00 weekdays and 7:00 - 11:00 weekends. I went down on a Friday morning at 6:45 thinking it would be empty but the place was humming that early. Not enough seating so go early or grab something to take to your room. They do have extra seating in the lounge.

Housekeeping did a great job, but I never actually met or saw any of them. Help staff in the breakfast room was also friendly. Didn't really interact with anyone else except the woman a check in who seemed a bit rushed. In fact, I don't remember even seeing a door man or belhop the entire time I was there. Funny, because they get such high marks from other reviewers.

Would definitely recommend and would stay a gain. Shop for a good rate.

Room Tip: I think any room would be fine.
