Check-In/Out. Much to our disappointment, when we arrived at the front desk at 4:30pm (1 hour 30 mins after expected check-in time, 3:00pm), our room was not yet ready and we were exhausted after a 5 hour flight. We were given comp. drinks though to make up for the wait, which was not of much use, when all you want to do is shower and drop on a bed. We were not checked in until about 5:30pm, which made the jet-lag feel even worse, just sitting around the lobby. The gentleman at reception was friendly and pleasant though and checkout was smooth and quick.
Room and view. Our room (13th floor) was typical with the necessary amenities, no view to talk about. We had a king sized bed and the room is small, which, as most commented, is typical for Manhattan but who comes to NY to stay in their room and it was just good enough. After a long day of walking about and sight seeing, it was good to return to a comfortable bed that was clean, so too the washroom. I felt as though the washroom could have been smaller, so that you had more room in the bedroom area, especially for those travelling with a few pieces of luggage. In the room, you have your own one-cup perc. for making tea or coffee and each day you receive 2 bottles of water, which are all complimentary. WiFi is free throughout the hotel or alternatively, there are PCs at the back of the lobby for guests' use. There is also a neat Green option where you can forgo house keeping and receive a $5 voucher, which can be combined for use at the hotel's bar or restaurant. Guest services responded promptly when we called them with requests both for items to be sent to the room, in addition to the request for info. The rooms seem to be sufficiently sound proof, as we did not hear a peep from the guests in the room near to ours. The AC was quite noisy but not to the point of keeping us up. There was a weird problem though with the TV remote shutting off the AC unit. We did not complain about it after we figured out what was triggering the AC to shut off (selecting a channel within the 20's range) but we reported it when we checked out, so hopefully they will rectify the problem, so that others guests do not think they are crazy.
Location to attractions. You are within walking distance to all the midtown attractions and are close to many many restaurants. Times Square is a couple blocks away and we were able to walk as far as Grand Central and Madison Square comfortably. Plus, yellow cabs are cheap and you are close to Port Authority and a subway station. It was also a safe location and if other reviewers did not mention that there was a Parole Office nearby, you would be none the wiser, as these persons did not disturb you or made you feel scared.
Hotel restaurant. We ate twice at the restaurant and it was average, tasty and served quickly. If you are there for a long period though, the menu is limited but you are in the midst of many food places and am certain that you will eat out most nights.
Generally though, this was a comfortable, safe hotel that is in a great location for seeing the city of New York.
