“Another Trump triumph”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

Just returned from an 8 night stay and I've got to say, whatever you think of Donald Trump, his company knows how to run hotels.

Location:
The hotel is in soho and a few steps away from a subway station where the c and e lines stop. It's a short 5min walk ( or longer depending on how many shops you call in at:-) ) to broadway and canal street for chain shopping and cheap NYC t-shirts, and c10mins to Washington square and Greenwich village. The shopping around the hotel in soho is fantastic with lots of independent shops and less well known brands in the USA. The hotel is the tallest structure in the neighbourhood and so it's pretty easy to get your way home as you can see it from everywhere (inc. the top of the rock!)

Rooms:
My top tip for this hotel is to check the room floor plans on the website before you go because not all rooms are the same and some are much bigger than others even in the same price bracket. Some rooms have sofa areas which makes the room much bigger and is a fantastic size for NYC.

We stayed on the 19th floor which seems to be the top floor in the standard price bracket. While not on a corner, our room offered views of the empire state building and Brooklyn bridge, which was great. Depending on which side of the building you're on, any lower than this and you could be staring straight into offices.

The main downside about the rooms is the complete lack of any drawers to store clothes. There were two small closets, which had enough room to hang 2 people's clothes, but no drawers. I ended up using my bedside drawer to store underwear, classy I know!!

There is a turn down service which is lovely as they leave you a chocolate, put out your slippers etc. ours did seem to come very early (c.6.30pm) which was often before we had gone out for dinner so you might want to check with the front desk to change the time they come.

The bathroom is huge! Unlike some other reviewers, we had a separate bathroom with solid door and with most trump properties, there is a tv in the bathroom.

There is a microwave and a fridge that allows you to move items around to fit your own stuff in, v handy!

Public areas:
It took me a few days to realise why the lobby was always busy and it's because that where the free wifi is. I do think it is ridiculous in this day and age to charge people for wifi in their rooms. There is a business centre downstairs which has two free computers, a printer, and an ATM. We used this a lot to print maps, do flight check in etc.

There were always a few photographers hanging outside the hotel so wear dark glasses and look glam and you might get your pic taken;-)

The staff were all very nice, particularly the doormen, bellmen and cleaners. If you have a late flight, the staff are very helpful in letting you use the spa facilities to shower, change etc.

There is a gym which has the usual cardio machines and a small floor area with free weights. Free headphones, water and towels are provided.

Other reviewers discussed having to wait for the lifts at busy times. There are six lifts but we didn't experience any delays at any time.

Overall:
Given the cost of some other 'luxury/trendy' hotels in NYC, this hotel offers good value for money with great service, great sized rooms and a great location. Whenever I visit NYC again on holiday, I'll definitely be staying here:-)

I stay here all the time when I'm n NY and totally love it. The rooms are big for NYC, the views are spectacular as it's one of the only skyscrapers in Soho, the location is perfect, the beds comfy, the bathrooms awesome, the staff friendly....my only complaint is that you have to pay for wifi which seems ridiculous to me for such an upscale place. But overall I love this place.

You'd expect anything with the name of Trump on it to angle for five stars, and believe me the Trump name is on everything here (from suit bags to laundry slips to stationery), and while the property gets a five star rating, it needs to work a bit to hold on to it. Here's our experience.

Our first room (yes,"first room") was a deluxe king on the 24th floor, overlooking parts of SoHo and a car wash. It didn't take long for us to notice, however, a rather pungent smell of cooking (steak, actually), overtaking the hallway and room. Curious about whether there was a kitchen on our floor we called the front desk, and the first reply was "Engineering will look into this. This is the first we've heard of a problem like that." Really?

The second call to the front desk a bit later (and by that point I was pretty much committed to having a steak for dinner . . .somewhere) elicited a snippy comment that the hotel was full . . .and that engineering was "on it." Really?

Shortly thereafter someone from engineering called. He apologized for any inconvenience the smell was causing, and offered that this was a "chronic design problem" in the architecture of the building, effecting 3-4 mid-level floors, and that they have known about for some time. I thanked him for his candor, and he set about to get us a new room in an otherwise booked hotel. Really?

Really. Within a few moments we were offered a suite on a higher floor, away from the smell. Good timing. I was just about to call the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park for a room.

Not to make too fine a point on all of this, but (a) the venting problem has been known for some time, notwithstanding comments from the front desk; and (b) candor at any juncture in a hotel visit is a welcomed moment. The front desk might just learn something from engineering. Go figure.

The suite (see bedroom picture) was quite nice, overlooking both the Freedom Tower and the Hudson River, so they do indeed know how to do it right, if pestered. And the smell was gone. As for dinner; we ate at "The Dutch" a few blocks away, upon the advice of one of the bellmen..

And the bone-in sirlion was great.

Room Tip: Spring for the rooms overlooking the river. Otherwise you get, well, a car wash. And ask about the s...

Just returned from a great stay at this excellent hotel. Everything was first class from start to finish, it was very hard to leave! Hard to beat the location too, minutes from great restaurants, bars and shops. I hope I can find an excuse to go back!

I absolutely loved my time at the Trump Soho! The room was beautiful and I have an allergy to polyester which was not a problem here bc all the linens were plush cotton. I really enjoyed my time by the pool because the staff was very friendly and attentive to all my needs. I would definitely stay at the trump soho again. The hotel is also walking distance to little Italy and shopping district.

We came for a quick three day getaway from Toronto (17th wedding anniversary). The hotel was wonderfully situated right in the heart of Soho. Subway one block away. Reasonable walk to the village and Meatpacking district, and to lower east side. Fabulous view onto downtown financial sector and Hudson river. We loved every minute of it, can't think of any other place we would rather stay in Manhattan.

The only glitch to an otherwise perfect stay was that Megan Martino, Reservations Associate, had reserved a high floor suite for us - what we got was a high floor regular room. Still, nothing to complain about - corner location with floor to ceiling glass walls with million dollar view and amazing bathroom. We regretted that the large TV obstructed view to one side, and that the amazing power curtains do not draw back completely to reveal the view to best advantage (we had to use the chairs to prop the curtains open completely).

We will be back for sure.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for high floor if you want the best view in town.

Great hotel, a bit pricey. But if you're going first class, this is the place to be. Corner suites are fabulous.
