Just returned from an 8 night stay and I've got to say, whatever you think of Donald Trump, his company knows how to run hotels.
The hotel is in soho and a few steps away from a subway station where the c and e lines stop. It's a short 5min walk ( or longer depending on how many shops you call in at:-) ) to broadway and canal street for chain shopping and cheap NYC t-shirts, and c10mins to Washington square and Greenwich village. The shopping around the hotel in soho is fantastic with lots of independent shops and less well known brands in the USA. The hotel is the tallest structure in the neighbourhood and so it's pretty easy to get your way home as you can see it from everywhere (inc. the top of the rock!)
My top tip for this hotel is to check the room floor plans on the website before you go because not all rooms are the same and some are much bigger than others even in the same price bracket. Some rooms have sofa areas which makes the room much bigger and is a fantastic size for NYC.
We stayed on the 19th floor which seems to be the top floor in the standard price bracket. While not on a corner, our room offered views of the empire state building and Brooklyn bridge, which was great. Depending on which side of the building you're on, any lower than this and you could be staring straight into offices.
The main downside about the rooms is the complete lack of any drawers to store clothes. There were two small closets, which had enough room to hang 2 people's clothes, but no drawers. I ended up using my bedside drawer to store underwear, classy I know!!
There is a turn down service which is lovely as they leave you a chocolate, put out your slippers etc. ours did seem to come very early (c.6.30pm) which was often before we had gone out for dinner so you might want to check with the front desk to change the time they come.
The bathroom is huge! Unlike some other reviewers, we had a separate bathroom with solid door and with most trump properties, there is a tv in the bathroom.
There is a microwave and a fridge that allows you to move items around to fit your own stuff in, v handy!
It took me a few days to realise why the lobby was always busy and it's because that where the free wifi is. I do think it is ridiculous in this day and age to charge people for wifi in their rooms. There is a business centre downstairs which has two free computers, a printer, and an ATM. We used this a lot to print maps, do flight check in etc.
There were always a few photographers hanging outside the hotel so wear dark glasses and look glam and you might get your pic taken;-)
The staff were all very nice, particularly the doormen, bellmen and cleaners. If you have a late flight, the staff are very helpful in letting you use the spa facilities to shower, change etc.
There is a gym which has the usual cardio machines and a small floor area with free weights. Free headphones, water and towels are provided.
Other reviewers discussed having to wait for the lifts at busy times. There are six lifts but we didn't experience any delays at any time.
Given the cost of some other 'luxury/trendy' hotels in NYC, this hotel offers good value for money with great service, great sized rooms and a great location. Whenever I visit NYC again on holiday, I'll definitely be staying here:-)
