If you're looking for a hotel in New York then look no further!!
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of May and we were both blown away by the place! Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. It's a very contemporary, trendy, vibrant hotel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere to it.
The staff were all very friendly and customer focussed, going out of their way to make you feel welcome. After a long journey from the England, it was refreshing to arrive at the hotel and be welcomed by such a pleasant receptionist! We stayed in a Grand Deluxe room, and were not disappointed! Often hotels don't live up to their website appearance, but the Gansevoort certainly does. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable, with an amazingly comfy bed, well stocked mini-bar, and a great balcony to soak up the New York atmosphere.
The housekeepers were unobtrusive, friendly and efficient; we were running late one morning and my girlfriend had left her makeup strewn across the bathroom (and she has a lot of makeup!). When we returned the housekeeper had not only cleaned up, but she had neatly organised all of the makeup into a tidy order! Unfortunately we never got a chance to thank whoever that was personally!
The hotel's roof-top pool is very unique and boasts a spectacular view of the Empire State Building. We managed to spend a few hours on our last day relaxing in the sun, enjoying a few final cocktails. Once again the staff were a credit to the Gansevoort brand; from the elegantly dressed waitress to the super friendly pool attendant. At night it turns into a cool and trendy night spot. Well worth a visit!
The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring all that Manhattan has to offer; a short walk to the Empire State building, and there is also a subway station just across the street. Across the street too is a Starbucks, a good nail salon to pamper your lady, a decent French restaurant, and an excellent deli/shop selling lots of fresh food.
If I had to pick any negatives (which is very difficult) then it would be that I made a couple of requests with the reservation team before leaving the UK; one was to have a bottle of champagne in our room on arrival, and the other was to have a later check out on the day we were leaving as our flight wasn't until the evening. Neither of these materialised, however the champagne issue was promptly addressed and we weren't charged for it. The later check out wasn't a problem either as we could leave our bags behind reception and still had use of all the facilities.
Unfortunately we didn't get time to use the spa or the gym so cannot comment on them. Maybe next time.
The only other negative, was having to leave the Gansevoort Park Avenue! I cannot recommend it highly enough, and cannot wait for my next Gansevoort experience! If like me you are trawling through Trip Advisor reviews trying to find the best place to stay in New York, then stop right now and get yourself there.
We stayed in a corner room, which meant more windows and light.
