“Not the best option, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

I took a room on fourth floor. The wi-fi was good for web reading only. I tried to use Netflix and the movie not even started to load. The door was once broken and they fix it awfully, but when i asked to change my room they did it without majors problems... The "new" room was ecactly the other one, but with a good door. The safe on that room was broken... Besides the room was pretty good cleaned and the breakfast was OK.

This hotel is right by little Italy and China town, it's close to a lot of tourist destinations but is also right next to a train line, I spent one night here before I had to leave for another hotel the beds were almost like sleeping on concrete

Staff was friendky. That is all that was worth it.
Hotel is grossly dirty. Mold in bathroom (chalk and grout very moldy). Cleaning lady dies not HAVE a vacuum?, no cleaners in cart?.
No separate room air units, heating controlled by hotel?. Was so hot, but opening windows could kill you. Delivery trucks park on corner and diesel fumes come in and noise so loud you cannot breath and sleep.

Asked for room to be vacuumed, it never was? Never used cleaners in room.

I came home with an eye infection (doc said mold) and a sliver of metal in my toe and it was infected.
T.v channels also such and bed is hard as a rock?!!!!

I booked this hotel because it was cheap and had a free cancellation fee, as is common with websites such as booking.com. The Mayor Hotel, in spite of the fact that the confirmation mail also states that there is no fee if cancelled 48 hours in advance, charged $94 to my credit card as soon as I made the reservation. This info was not in the confirmation mail, but it was in an attachment, which I assumed was just a pdf version of the email. They did not answer my query. I cancelled the reservation a month in advance and am disputing the charge with my credit card company.

I work in a very busy and popular hotel in the U.K. and I expect a level of comfort & service and you certainly don't and won't receive it here!
The reception was unmanned when we arrived to check in and we ended up waiting 15 minutes, when she did arrive she choose to answer the phone instead of checking us in. I would never do that to the guests where I work, I deem that extremely rude.
We got into the room and it was like a sauna, no air conditioning that you were able to control in the room, it's for the whole floor. We were right opposite the Manhattan bridge which has the subway underneath and it is all you can hear until god knows when but that's not the worst thing! The bed is the worst thing I've ever had the displeasure of trying to sleep on! It was literally like a slab of rock. At one point my partner knocked on the bed and I was in the bathroom and I assumed it was someone knocking on the door! They only provide you with one sheet and a duvet with no quilt on, we folded the duvet in half as it was extremely thin, to try and pad the so called mattress and we had to sleep under a sheet. The bed sheet had marks on, know idea whether it was clean or not. There were hairs that were definitely not ours all Over the place. Towels had holes in, there was barely any room in the room to fit our suitcases in. The only positive of this very negative review is the location and that is all that's going for this hotel.

I have only 2 complaints about this hotel:

1 - The heater was controlled for the whole floor and not for the room, so, sometimes the room was a bit too hot!
2 - The bed were a bit stiff.

Other than this, this hotel made the expectations, I wanted a cheap place that I could sleep and have a private bathroom.

I wasn't expecting great accomodations and extras but it was just fine. It was cleaned every day with no exception.

I see some people complaining about this hotel but if you aim for the low-end of the price table of hotels, what were you expecting? A 5 star hotel for the price of a 2 star hotel?

The staff was nice and when there was no food left on the breaksfast, they went on to buy more in less than 5 minutes.

Wi-fi worked perfectly on the 1st floor, and having been on a room facing the subway, had no problem whatsoever with the noise.

Yes, the staff was - every single person I interacted with - attentive, polite, and personable. That's the good part. The not good: the "beds" are box springs - no mattresses. There is NO padding - just a box spring with a thin mattress cover over it. It was horrible uncomfortable, and basically like sleeping on a floor. The room temperature was hot (and no way to adjust from in the room), but staff came up to floor and adjusted from a central box. The internet was not accessible (despite numerous tries over several days with the username/password provided), and I was instead directed to the one computer in the lobby. Hotel is across from a major (and loud) train track bridge.

Room Tip: I cannot recommend staying here, but if you do, ask for a room that doesn't face the train track...
