“Five Star Food and Wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Marea is exceptional when it comes to Italian Seafood. The menu consists of crudos, fresh made pastas, and a variety of seafood and fish. The wine selection is excellent and the glass selection is one of the best in New York. The service is professional and friendly. Atmosphere is simple, clean contemporary. The bar is vibrant and busy. You will see Tom Hanks, Steve Martin and others dining.

Be sure to ask your server for suggestions and you must have at least two of the fresh pastas, save room for the best affogato in America. Plan a relaxing two to three hour dinner and you will not be disappointed. Keep in mind when going including wine and dinner for two will be more than pocket money. I am a biweekly addict and have been for several years. Be prepared to be a Marea follower.

“Very special treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We had an exceptional dinner at Marea to celebrate my birthday. The cuisine is Italian seafood. Four of us ordered the prix fixe menu which included 4 courses. We were amazed at the generous portion sizes since most restaurants of this caliber have small tasting menus.

There were many choices in each category, and the food was all delicious and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable, and it amazed us that on a Saturday night you could carry on a conversation easily without the din that is the usual in most restaurants. The cost was $99 per person, and it was clearly a splurge for us. However, it was our choice since we could have ordered a la carte. If you choose to do the prix fixe, be sure you are hungry!

“Excellent everytime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

I really love this restaurant. All the fresh seafood appetizers are excellent. The fusilli pasta with octopus and bone marrow is one my favorites. For the main course, I have tried the scallops, branzino, & halibut which are all superb. But my favorite main at this restaurant is the sirloin steak which is aged beef from Days Creek. Really!! Marea is really well known for the seafood but this steak is top notch and just very flavorful.

“Extraordinary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We had an extraordinary evening at Marea. The food, the service, the room were all beyond wonderful. The staff was warm, friendly and took care of our every need from the time we walked in the door until the time we left, which was an amazing five hours. It's so unusual today to be in a comfortable place, without being rushed, with other diners who are not screaming on their phones. This is a classy place, but the vibe is young and hip. It's an exciting place, with a mix of old and new. It's truly fine dining. The food was some of the best I've ever had in New York. This is my favorite restaurant on every level. It's elegant without being stuffy and it's a place where you can truly dine and enjoy the company of friends. I absolutely loved every minute of Marea.

“Elegant & Trendy but not a Good Value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

We dined at Marea based on the recommendation of a couple that live in NYC. Overall I will say the restaurant itself was very well appointed with very attentive staff. Our waiter was very experienced and certainly knew each menu item. But I don’t entirely agree with many of the other reviewers that stated the pricing was in line with NYC prices. Take it from me it was high even by those standards! They have a pay by the pound offering on the menu. Our waiter mentioned that each portion of the specialties dishes were about a pound or greater. To be honest, the quality of each dishes were all very good but they were nowhere near the weight specified. Many other places to visit and spend over $150 per person when in NYC, this is not one I would recommend or revisit.
