“Great Indian food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Went in at 3pm which is the time when they supposedly close. Still they let us in and did not try to hurry us up to order. The service was not only patient but also courteous and professional. The food was excellent and very authentic with lots of fresh spices.

Specifically, their chicken tika is highly recommended.

“Very good breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Pricier than your usual breakfast joint but well worth it. A good starting point as you embark onto your walkathon of NYC.

“Pretentious and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

This is a well-located coffee shop (41st and Fifth Ave.) inside an attractively designed hotel (Andaz). Of course , hotel prices come with it. For my money, next time I will try the Madison &
Vine place located at 41st and Madison.

I was seated about 2:38 pm to await a friend for coffee. This occurred after having it explained to me that no one can sit in that area for coffe, just for lunch. At 12:38 sure. At 2:38 pm when it is half empty? Come on.

So OK I figured we'd order something. Their coffee/lattes can be good. The menu has teeny tiny type onthe back explainign where everythign is "sourced" - give me a break.

“Not a typical hotel restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

The Shop at Andaz was a delightful restaurant experience with a friend before a Broadway show. We had hoped to eat across the street (at Bryant Park Grill behind the NYC Public Library) but they were closed for a private event. Often hotel restaurants cater to a captive audience and thus aren't the best options available so it was with trepidation that we tried the Shop. Great surprise and we were so glad we ate there. The diver scallops were cooked to perfection, but the real gem was the duck breast. Crispy on the outside, as it should be, and succulent (although I hate that word, it fits) on the inside. We enjoyed reading the back of the menu listing the local sources--which of course made the food taste even better. They were featuring a special salad that evening: a watermelon/mint/watercress salad that was perfect for a beautiful summer evening. We finished by sharing a mud cake portion which was served with fresh orange slices. It was a good thing we shared, fabulous but rich! Service was good, as was all the service we experienced during our Andaz stay. Our NYC resident hosts were glad to hear of our good experience at the Shop and plan to dine there soon as it is apparently difficult to find a good restaurant in that general area...not that I would know! It was a great experience and I highly recommend the Shop at Andaz.

“The Shop Restaurant in the Andaz hotel is the best breakfast in midtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

The egg skillets are great. The one with Chorizo and the one with Asparagus are my favorite. They get all of their ingredients locally and what they don't make in house, they get locally as well and tell you right on the back of the menu where everything is from.

The coffee is suburb.
