“Great views... for Free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

I had heard that this was a "Must Do," especially if you want to save some money but want to see everything. We got on at the Manhattan stop and rode to Staten Island then back. Piece of advice, get on the ferry (at the Manhattan stop) on the right side and go up the 2 flights of stairs. You will then get a great view of the Statue of Liberty. You will actually get pretty close and get some amazing pictures. On the way back, you can get on the left side and do the same. It was a great thing because not only did it not cost anything, you got absolutely amazing views.

“Free tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

There's not much reason to take the ferry as there's not much to see on Staten Island if you are staying in Manhatten. The only reason is for the sites, there ferry travels close to Governers island and Liberty Island giving decent view of both but it was the views back towards Manhatten that did it for me.

It is free but does get very busy in commuter times so work around that.

Overall a good way to spend a couple of hours but please note that you have to leave the ferry at Staten Island and get back on.

“Free Boat Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

We were there in December and again in January so the boat was not filled with tourists and there was a lot of space to walk around and take pictures. It doesn't cost anything so you have nothing to lose. Walk on, enjoy the sights, walk back off and go around and get on to come back again. One of those things you can tick off your to-do list with virtually no effort involved.

“Free but VERY busy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

The reason we took this ferry was because we did not want to pay to see Lady Liberty. This ferry gives you a great view, but it is not a close one. It's clear but not close. The ferry was also VERY busy, hardly any room to stand and take pictures, and if you sat down then stood up your seat would be lost. It was like this on both decks, and the side facing the statue was always more busy. The trip was also much shorted than expected, not the 25 minutes I expected. Maybe dock to dock that's the official time but it's much less out in the water. However, on a nice day like we had this is a great way to see the statue and Manhattan!

“Great Views for the cost of 1 hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

If you are not taking a ride to the Lady Liberty or another boat tour, make sure and do this one. With so much to do and pay for in NY, why not check this box for free. The views of the city are spectacular and you get fairly close to Lady Liberty. Just make sure you are on right hand side of the boat leaving NY or the Left side leaving Staton Island to see the Statue of Liberty. Plenty of opportunities to take great family photos with the City or the Statue in the back round.

It takes about 20 minutes each way plus time waiting to board. Plenty of seating if desired.
