Yes we were delighted at the prospect of doing something exciting in NYC that didn't cost any money. The ferry was punctual and fast but the problem was all of the amazing views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island were ruined by the fact that both ferries we took (there and back) had no open deck. As you may imagine trying to take an amazing photo (on a brilliant blue sky day) through a dirty screen of perspex is very infuriating to say the least.
Also when we got to Staten Island we asked a member of staff when the open deck ferry would be leaving he assured us that if we waited for over thirty minutes (i.e. missing the next ferry) we would be on the open deck one. This was not the case!!
