“Nice place. Need TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

After walking around fighting the busy Saturday night restaurant scene, we stumbled on to Jacques which had no wait time. The place was nice, wait staff nice. The appetizers were good and drinks came promptly. When dinner arrived, my wife's dinner had to be sent back for being severely under cooked. (Raw inside) When it came back cooked correctly, it was very tasty. I had the short ribs which were delicious and tender but cold!! although all the compliments on the plate were hot. Our daughter’s meal was perfect. Desserts were good. I think we are going to give this place another chance as we liked the casual atmosphere and attentive staff. We will follow up.

“Jacques has lost it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

In 2011 we visited Jacques for the first time and wow, how good that was. We returned in 2012 and had the same experience, see also my 2012 review. So in 2013 Jacques was a ‘must do’ for us. However, it seems Jacques has gone back to Paris and Jack took over. First of all, the interior has changed. Some cabinets are removed and replaced by some high tables with bar stools. OK, can live with that. More important is the menu: Like the previous visits it was difficult to choose, however for completely different reasons: First of all, the light is dimmed so low, the menus are almost impossible to read; second, there is nothing exiting anymore on the menu. Yes, the mussels are still there, but for the rest? Finally I took the special: Bœuf bourguignon. It was not bad, but I have tasted better. And then the music: you won’t hear Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour anymore, they now play an Ibiza lounge CD at a ridiculously loud volume. It’s more like you are in a beach club cave and not in a bistro. Service was good and so was the wine. Conclusion: when we left, it was not au revoir, but adieu. Sorry Jack, eh, Jacques, but we will not return.

“Poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Waited over an hour for lunch. At first staff were very friendly but then just seemed to avoid us. We never complained but they appeared to be too embarrassed to offer and apology or explanation. As we left no-one even acknowledged our departure.

The food itself was OK, but for our final meal in the city on this trip the experience was a terrible disappointment. We would definitely not go back!

“Double check your bill!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Went with my wife for lunch in April 2013. Meal was good, but when we received the bill, we realized we had been overcharged 6$; 2$ extra on two glasses of wine and 2$ extra on one of the main courses (3 items on the bill).
When I tell the waiter, his only reply was "that's how it came out from the system", without any apologies. Sometimes it pays to check your bill carefully...
It is not about the 6$ per se, but the way the restaurant handled the situation. We won't be back.

“Stumbled upon by luck”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Walking through the streets of the neighborhood, we stumbled upon this little bistro starving! After enjoyoing our lunch we started to gaze around the lovely room. The colors of the room influenced me in the redecorating of my own kitchen this month at home! They resisted removing the 1930ish sink in the bathroom, scattered photos, tiles, which now are not just old, not quaint, they're treasures.... a call back to old NYC. I imagne dining at Jacques during more Bohemian days. I had a salad. Sounds simple but the tastes were so complex! The greens and chicken had a fresh, lovely dressing, and at the base of the salad was a complex yogurt mixture that was a mouth popping surprising finsh. Soometimes you just get lucky.
