“A great experience in a beautiful building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

I went to see Rigoletto with my family. Just being inside the Metropolitan Opera Building was a huge experience. The elegant winding stairs in red velvet offering a backdrop to the nicely dressed opera guests. The music of Rigoletto is of course wonderful, and the "updated" storyline, where the story is set in Vegas and the main characters are immigrants and gangsters instead of an Italian Duke and his courtiers, works okay and adds a humorous twist. Absolutely worth a visit- even if it's just a tour of the building.

“"La Traviata" rocked!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

If you are in NYC and the Met has an opera on, GO!! I have been to several and have always been blown away by the performances and productions. It is a wonderful experience and never disappoints. I took my niece to her first opera here ("Don Giovanni") and she loved it! Productions are sometimes traditional and some times modern--"La Traviata" was done in a beautiful, minimalist fashion in black, white gray and red hues, making it a visual as well as musical delight. Go!!

“Poulenc's superb Dialogues of the Carmelites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

The stunning and extremely moving Poulenc opera, Dialogues of the Carmelites, is beautifully produced at the Met, where too many other productions don't work nearly so well. The set is spare, the singing is superb.

“Don Carlo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I attend one or two operas a year at the Met. This year I saw Don Carlo. I was concerned with the length of the opera at first. I must say, however, 5 hours went by so quickly. I love Ramon Vargas who was as wonderful as ever.

“Always a special experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We saw Rigoletto here recently. It was, as usual, a sumptuous production and the opera house is a truly magnificent space. The production was set in Las Vegas which was, to say the least, unusual! However, for me it worked! I thought the gangsterish plot of Rigoletto lent itself very well to this treatment. Rigoletto is done so often that this new take maintained the interest throughout - and it was very cleverly done, with great attention to detail The Met's an expensive treat but obviously one which does not happen too frequently!A totally positive experience!
