“Richard III in LuEsther Hall was wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

The Public Theater's mission of bringing high quality theater to people of all economic means makes it to my mind one of the most important cultural institutions in New York City.

Speechifying aside, my wife and I went to see their Mobile Shakespeare Unit production of Richard III in the informal setting of LuEsther Hall, and enjoyed it tremendously.

“Dinner and a show at The Public”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We began our evening at The Public with dinner in its restaurant, The Library. It was lovely, warm, just like being in a beautiful library setting. Food was very tasty. We share a salad (enough for three), burger and fries, and an appetizer. While we were dining, a staff member brought our tickets to the table so we did not have to wait in line and will call window. Nice touch! A fascinating place; theater lovers should visit this wonderful setting that embraces the idea that art should be accessible to all. If you are ever in New York during the summer, it is worth the wait in line for a free ticket to a performance during Shakespeare in the Park.

“. . . something for everyone . . . .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

God bless Joe Papp and the vision that made this possible! One of the crown jewels of the city's cultural life. Great theater and great actors and benefactors, enriching the life of the city and bringing both Shakespeare and exciting new drama to audiences year after year.

“Gatz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

For anyone who loves literature, this is a must. We came to NYC just to see it, and weren't disappointed. Although a 6-hour play (with a dinner break) sounds grueling, it was absorbing and the time passed quickly. I recommend getting the best seats possible (always worth it, because why pinch pennies on this when you've paid so much just to get here?). Even in the back, though, we had a wonderful view and a good experience.

“Saw Gatz!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

Fabulous! True- it's 8 hrs. long, with a 75 min. dinner break- but a true theater-lovers' experience... Highly recommended.
