“Avoid a room by the elevator”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights last week. The hotel is very plush and well situated in the heart of New York. The first night we had an ongoing noise that stopped my wife from sleeping. We called an engineer to look into it, thinking it may the the air conditioning but he said it was general New York noise! The noise contained throughout our stay preventing us from getting a good nights sleep. In the end we we realised it was the elevators making the noise and created a fuss to the management who initially blamed the construction site next door but when pushed they admitted they often get complains about the elavator noise. We paid top rate for the room and should expect a relatively quiet room, I don't expect a totally soundless environment but do expect to be able to sleep at night.
We have made a formal complaint and are awaiting the outcome but I would advise future visitors to this hotel to ensure they are not located close to the elavators.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to elavators

Spent two nights here. The renovation at the time were underway, but it was done in a way that was not overly disturbing for us. The location is near everything in the center of the City, so walking is convenient from this location. Service was fine, and they accepted our luggage in advance of our check in time. The room overall quality was outstanding with newly renovated bathrooms, very comfortable beds, and views that could not be beat overlooking the Cathedral. Pricey and worth it. CH

Room Tip: Stay was summer 2013.

Great location right across from Rockefeller Center. Big rooms with terrific city views
Bellmen were so helpful with directions, getting cabs and remembering us each and every time we walked through the door. Nice lounge. Would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed at the New York Palace for 3 days November 14, 2014. Very nice hotel with great views of the city. Room was very clean, nice and quiet. It is close to all the shopping but yet far enough away from all of the noise. I highly recommend this hotel. They have a little shop on the first floor that has sandwiches, coffee and treats. But plan on going out for breakfast. Top of the Rock is a must do and is very close to the hotel. We bought the New York pass and I think it was worth it as we never had to wait in a long line. The Circleline semi-circle cruise is a really great way to see the city. We did that as soon as we arrived. That was a far walk so I would recommend taking a cab. We got hop-on-hop-off bus tickets as part of our New York pass and never did it. They have to be validated first and we never made it to one of the places. Plan for a lot of walking so wear good-looking, stylish, comfortable shoes. Have fun in New York City! We did.

Great location for both business and pleasure in Mid-Town Manhattan.
Good spacious rooms but with as with most Manhattan hotels small bathrooms.
However ridiculous to have to pay $16 a day for wi-fi-internet access, more so with very limited band width making it next to impossible to Skype. I thought free wi-fi is now the norm in any half decent hotel?
To have a full breakfast one is directed to a restaurant outside the hotel ... not convenient especially when it is freezing outside!
Front-house staff generally surly and unfriendly.
If you get a low floor room (9th?) you may face an air-conditioning unit.
As a regular visitor to NY thanks but not again as there is a wide selection of 4-5 star hotels.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor room for a good view over the city.

When in New York go to this hotel. The service, cleanliness and location are great. Close to many locations.the rooms are spacious and well appointed after the extensive renovation. It has always been a classic but now it is a very nice hotel in the heart of Manhattan.

Returned to the New York Palace for the 3rd time this year.

Central and great position.

Modern and large refurbished rooms - try for a high floor

Staff are very friendly and obliging and want to highlight the doormen and concierge who are excellent.

Highly recommend - cannot wait to return
