“Amazing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

This hotel is by far the best hotel i have stayed in in NYC. The staff are amazing and really do make you feel special. We stayed in the Tower over looking the church and it was great. I have stayed there 4 times now and would never choose anywhere else. The location is great too, right in the middle of town!!!

Room Tip: Choose a suite in the Tower!!!

I have just stayed for 10 amazing nights at this wonderful Hotel with my wife and 2 children both under 10.
We stayed in a double/double room on the 35th floor with the most sublime views of the city.
The service and attention to detail that we received from the hotel staff was incredible , everyone was just so helpful they made myself and my family feel extra special. This extended right the way through from Victor the Doorman who just went above and beyond to help us , Angel who helped us up to our room and was always on hand and Bill the concierge with his lovely manner and Encyclopaedic knowledge of New York there were so many great staff I am sorry I cant name them all but even the way our room was made up was above and beyond what I have experienced in other 5 star hotels these guys go the extra mile.
The food at the hotel was amazing especially Breakfast which was the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had and we were really touched by being invited to meet the head chef and his team which my family loved.
The location could not have been better slap bang in the middle of everything.
In short we have no complaints or criticism about the New York Palace apart from the paid for Wifi. Highly recommended and great for families cant wait to return.
10/10 A+ Gold Star

Room Tip: Having only stayed here the once I would say rooms on the 35th are great.

I stayed at the Palace for 2 nights with my boyfriend. The location is amazing, we walked pretty much everywhere. The hotel itself is beautiful as well, and the rooms are comfortable. I've never stayed in a room that big in NYC before. The bed was amazing and we slept really well. I wasn't expecting that much since we did book the hotel on a discounted website, but even the view from our room was beautiful.

BUT... The check-in was not very efficient. The staff who was doing the check-in told us he couldn't upgrade us (we never asked) because the room was apparently worth $500/night. I don't need that information and I don't see why he thought it would be relevant to let us know. If you offer your room on a discount website, don't tell me it's worth $xxx/nightly. And, check-in should basically take 5 minutes, but it took about 15 minutes plus the waiting in line time. In the end, we got a higher floor room (without asking) which we appreciated.

The other problems is the WiFi cost ($16/day is too expensive, hotels really need to stop charging that much for internet). We did not use it for this reason.

I would still give it 5* and I will go back, but there is no way I'll pay $500/night for this hotel ;)

The New York Palace is the hotel made famous years ago by Leona Helmsley. The public spaces are elegant without being as stuffy as with some similar New York hotels. The guest rooms are newly remodeled. My room was considerably larger than rooms I’ve had at comparable hotels in New York, and the furnishings are upscale yet comfortable. The bathroom was alright, but fairly ordinary by standards of similar hotels. The standard-sized closet included a relatively large safe (plenty large enough for a lap top), as well as an umbrella (nice touch). A panel by the bed controlled the lighting and temperature in the room (but not the window coverings). Wireless internet was $15 daily, which I find annoying when hotels charging a fraction of these rates provide it for free. My room looked directly onto St. Patrick’s Cathedral, with Rockefeller Center in the near distance. The hotel was only a block from my business meetings on Park Avenue, yet also within an easy walk of Rockefeller Center. Walking back from dinner and a show on 45th Street in the Theater District also was easy. The walk was not far, and the entire route was well lit with many others walking around at that time of the night. Fifth Avenue was only one block over, and Central Park not far either. I give the Palace four rather than five stars due to minor annoyances caused by housekeeping (like failing to restock the face cloths in the bathroom), a somewhat chaotic reception / check-in area (at least when I was there), and the lack of other small but appreciated amenities provided by similar properties (including morning newspapers, turn down service, or even a friendly greeting (or any greeting at all) by the door staff when returning to the hotel), all leading to less of a feel of luxury and high end service compared to similar properties in New York.

Imagine yourself staying in one of the most expensive hotels in New York City and spending the night sleeping on the floor. Well, that's what I did.

My wife, son and I spent one night in a spacious room on the 21st floor with an unobstructed view of a skyscraper under construction. We didn't care about the view. Our room was clean and spacious. However, it was anything but a "wow" experience.

First, I noticed that the time on the clock radio was off by several hours. There weren't instructions on the clock that described how to change the time. The concierge on duty told me that someone would "take care of it." That didn't happen, later, we discovered that the television remote was partially inoperable. Oh, and then there is the exorbitant daily charge for WIFI access. Seriously, that is the kind of cheesy gambit I'd expect at a one-star hotel. These were cumulatively minor inconveniences. It was the quality of our mattress that degraded the experience. It was anything but firm; the floor was frankly more comfortable.

The hotel's location can't be beat; it is in close proximity to Rockefeller Center, Central Park, MOMA, and the epicenter of New York's most extravagant shopping district. We had fantastic dinner at Chola on East 58th and a quintessential NYC breakfast at Ess-a-Bagel. (Following the suggestion of a friendly staff member at Ess-a-Bagel, my wife and I dined al fresco at the outstanding Greenacre pocket park on East 51st Street.)

We found the hotel staff, other than the underwhelming crew manning the registration desk, to be worthy of The Palace Hotel's heritage.

Room Tip: Ask for room with new mattresses and view of St. Patrick's Cathedral.

this was a nice surprise. the rooms were large for NYC standards and the room was relatively quite for NYC. Everything was clean and well appointed. Bell staff quick and helpful with all questions. Location was good for a couple of days with the spouse and no kids. Only complaint was the WiFi was spotty and $15.99 a day. It really should be free with a hotel of this caliber. the front desk was kind enough to remove the charge when we voiced our problems though. all in all a nice quite big hotel.

My girlfriends and I travelled to NY last year and stayed at the New York Palace. We were pleasantly surprised as we normally stay at smaller boutique hotels. We were very well looked after and Jorge Cruz in guest services in particular was incredible and made sure we had everything we needed, he was a huge help. I would highly recommend this hotel travelling to NY.
