“A Friendly Renovation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We stayed during the weekend and secured a great rate. What we didn't know was the hotel common areas, lobby and famed restaurant were under total construction. While a bit dismayed, the skilled staff, from the valet to room service to front desk, were incredibly friendly and offered enticing detail about the renovation. There enthusiasm a d genuine warmth was enough to overcome the temporary drywall, lack of lobby seating and a full service restaurant. Outside of the common area renovations the rooms were as usual, nicely appointed, exceptionally clean and very comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a St Patrick view. 23rd floor or higher.

“Under Construction and New Management”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

I have stayed here before, and it is a first-class hotel. When I saw the rate, I should have known there was a problem. It was under construction from a (probably much needed) major renevation to the lobby and the courtyard. The rooms are still great, and that was all I really needed, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't warn me about the ongoing work. If you are looking for a deal, and don't mind a little dust, this could be your choice while it lasts.

Room Tip: Don't bother with the upcharge for the view of the back of St. Patricks.

“Beware: MAJOR construction happening”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the major renovations happening at the hotel right now. It led to great disappointment for our family. We chose the Palace because we wanted a special location for our 6 year old's first Broadway show. Having stayed there years ago, I wanted to share with her the magnificent lobby, courtyard, dining etc. We arrived to find the exterior convered in scalffolding. The courtyard was blocked off. We walked in and heard loud banging from the construction. They have set up a temporary lobby, with rugs taped to the floor. Most of the lobby was blocked with black curtains to hide the construction. They have set up a temporary dining room and bar. Although the room itself is beautiful, it lacked any ambience due to the "temporary" nature of the set-up. The waiter mentioned they have to walk more than a city block to get to the kitchen. Our room was fine and the staff was nice but we might as well have stayed at a generic hotel in Times Square. We had our choice to stay anywhere in the city so you can imagine our disappointment. There is NOTHING about this on their web site or in their blog so I thought it important to share. I'm sure the hotel will be beautiful when the work is done, but better to stay away until it is.

“Great place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We stayed for a weekend to just explore he city. We chose the tower rooms with the concierge club. Our kids had a great time just at the club. They offer food displays three times a day which was delicious and top shelf drinks. This alone was well worth the price of the room. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel is in a great location near the park and tourist sites. I have stayed at several other hotels in the city and this one was by far my favorites.

Room Tip: Tower room over looking St. Patricks.

“Classic NYC! Fit for a King or Queen!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

When you enter the NY Palace you feel like you have been transported to a palatial estate in Manaco. Opulent, elegant, and brimming with class of the highest order. Perfect location, directly on Madison Ave within walking distance of Central Park West, Rockefeller Center, Shopping on 5th Ave, Lincoln Center, and great restaurants. What more can a traveler ask for? I am native New Yorker and love staying here. It is pricey, but it is worth it. You will pay north of $300 per night... great for a special occasion. Better than staying at a chain hotel in NYC for the same price.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor facing the city. It is a must. The views are great.
