“Luxury? I think not...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Don't be fooled by the entryway that boasts an at least double story high glossy door. While the reception, bar and lounge area is impressive and swanky the standard queen room I stayed in was minimalist, to be polite. Upon entering there was barely enough room to step into it before coming up on the bed. We could not locate the light switch which was hidden behind the open door and a foot lower than where you would normally feel for one. There was no more than a foot of space between the foot of the bed and the wall, and even less where the tv screen protruded. I had to walk sideways with my back to the wall hunching over and placing my hand on the bed to get from one side to the other. And I am not a big girl, even with my 7 1/2 month pregnant belly. There was very little space to put bags so that we did not have to step over and around them. The room was too hot - 75 even though the thermostat was set at 72 - but the oversized bathroom that could have been scaled down to allow more space in the bedroom was freezing, apparently from a large drafty window directly above the inefficient heater. Aside from the normal and somewhat expected noise from the streets (sirens, horns, screaming drunk people at 2 am) the dysfunctional fire door located 2 inches outside our room door did not shut properly and creaked very loudly every time someone went through it. After giving up on trying to get any more sleep I arose and my attention turned back to the bathroom...The shower (no bath) was large and nice looking with its all-tile floor and walls and sleek floor to ceiling glass divider. The shower head was one of the better ones I have found in hotel rooms. But there was nothing other than a wire soap holder bolted in the corner so shampoo and other bottles had to be placed on the floor. The glass divider only covered half the length of the shower and was immobile. This meant you had to get in the shower to turn it on and get hit with the cold water before it warmed up. I have come across this shower door design in Europe and believe me, it does not work. As soon as you step into the water it bounces off and sprays out the open side. This one did so much that a large puddle started forming and creeping towards the wall where the heater was located and I had placed our toiletry bags so they would warm up and the products would not be frozen. The bathmat was completely soaked by the time I got out. The towels (total of 2 provided) were small and scratchy. This is not exactly my idea of luxury, or even convenience, certainly not by NYC standards. I had reserved the room through a deal on Vacationist and even with the discounted rate paid a total of $171. At this cost I was disappointed to say the least. I could not imagine paying full price for an experience like this...

We thank you for choosing King & Grove New York as your home away from home during your trip to NYC. We apologize for this issues you had during your stay. Upon your return, we recommend you book one of our larger room categories such as our Premier King, or Junior King Suite. These rooms offer a more spacious and comfortable experience. At your earliest convenience, please contact a member of our Management team to further discuss your stay with us.

“Wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from a weeks stay at K&G. The whole experience was wonderful, we arrived earlier than check in and were dealt with straight away with excellent front desk service.
Our room was on the 11th floor, the room was fair sized as like all NYC hotels but myself and my partner had no problems, the room was clean with all necessary amenities, the bed was super comfy and even though it was below freezing outside the heating worked just fine although a little noisy. Housekeeping came daily, provided fresh towels and throughly cleaned the room and were always polite and helpful when we spoke to them.
The hotel has recently been refurbished, it had a very nice boutique look inside and out, the rooms are nicely decorated and the staff and service are excellent, the location is brilliant and our overall experience surpassed expectation. We would definitely stay here again!

“iPad & iPhone that wasn't to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013 via mobile

Check in ruined my stay .. Why I here you ask, i paid in advance almost 1 year in advance and on checking in another 1000$ was processed from my card, I don't have visa credit so it took the money I had Pre loaded to buy an iPad and I phone. I traveled with children and wife so all I had was cash left and this left me with no back up.

On informing staff they informed me it would be returned in 3-4 days .... Just in time for me to arrive home.

Bar in hotel is now open and I think it's 1700-0000

Pros to hotel are many such as

Location
Family room is like an apartment
Clean
Clean towels every day
Safe in room
Crooked knife accross the street (30)
Nicest beds ever
Bathroom is huge
Tv is hd (traveled with kids)
Free fast wifi

Cons

5$ charge to print
Account been debited extra 1000$

“Beautiful room, excellent stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I'm from New Jersey, so my opportunities to stay overnight in NYC are few and far between. My friend and I had plans to go to a party in the city in the early evening and decided to make a night of it by staying over. We booked our room on Expedia and got a fantastic rate (read: more than $100 off the room rate if booked directly through the hotel) on a Standard Queen room at King & Grove New York. When we arrived we were promptly attended to at the front desk and given our room assignment. The lobby and lounge area immediately gave me the impression that I was in a hip New York hotel. When we arrived at our room, we found it to be immaculate, a decent size, and very well appointed. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space, although if I were staying for more than one night I might have upgraded to a slightly larger room. The bathroom was enormous and beautiful and modern. Although we didn't use the television, it looked nicer than the flat screen I have at home. There was also a full length mirror, a desk, and a safe in the room's tiny wardrobe.

The only complaint I had was that the shower was European style, meaning just a half glass partition and no door, which made it difficult to keep water off the tiled bathroom floor. It looked great, but could be potentially hazardous if you slip and fall on the wet tile. A larger bathmat might be a good idea. That's really not much of a complaint, just an observation, and if that is all the negatives that I can come up with, they've obviously done very well. We had a minor hiccup when we left in the morning and found a bill for $105.00 even though the room was prepaid and there were no incidentals. We went to the front desk to investigate and were told that it was a computer error and were assured nothing would be charged to the card (which it wasn't: I checked).

I will absolutely make King & Grove my go-to for overnight stays in the city, and I'm already trying to think up ways to get back there soon (not an easy feat when home is just an hour-long train ride away that costs only $30). Great place to stay! Loved it!

Room Tip: If you are staying for more than one night, book the Superior Queen Room instead of the Standard Que...

“Good Hotel - Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Had a nice double room for my stay. No view as it looked out on another building but this was not an issue. TV and internet was good as were the iron/board etc.

The location of the hotel makes up for the lack of ammenities inside. The lobby bar did not have a licence during my stay and I got the impression the hotel wasn't quite finished.

Staff were very helpful and friendly.

We hope that your business trip was a successful and productive one! We appreciate the nice comments about our room. Our liquor license has been restored since July and the bar is open for business. If I may add, our bartending team is simply fantastic. Our location is perfect, and our team provides outstanding King & Grove service. We look forward to your return!
