I'm from New Jersey, so my opportunities to stay overnight in NYC are few and far between. My friend and I had plans to go to a party in the city in the early evening and decided to make a night of it by staying over. We booked our room on Expedia and got a fantastic rate (read: more than $100 off the room rate if booked directly through the hotel) on a Standard Queen room at King & Grove New York. When we arrived we were promptly attended to at the front desk and given our room assignment. The lobby and lounge area immediately gave me the impression that I was in a hip New York hotel. When we arrived at our room, we found it to be immaculate, a decent size, and very well appointed. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space, although if I were staying for more than one night I might have upgraded to a slightly larger room. The bathroom was enormous and beautiful and modern. Although we didn't use the television, it looked nicer than the flat screen I have at home. There was also a full length mirror, a desk, and a safe in the room's tiny wardrobe.
The only complaint I had was that the shower was European style, meaning just a half glass partition and no door, which made it difficult to keep water off the tiled bathroom floor. It looked great, but could be potentially hazardous if you slip and fall on the wet tile. A larger bathmat might be a good idea. That's really not much of a complaint, just an observation, and if that is all the negatives that I can come up with, they've obviously done very well. We had a minor hiccup when we left in the morning and found a bill for $105.00 even though the room was prepaid and there were no incidentals. We went to the front desk to investigate and were told that it was a computer error and were assured nothing would be charged to the card (which it wasn't: I checked).
I will absolutely make King & Grove my go-to for overnight stays in the city, and I'm already trying to think up ways to get back there soon (not an easy feat when home is just an hour-long train ride away that costs only $30). Great place to stay! Loved it!
