We asked friends, browsed and thought long and hard about which hotel to stay at for our first visit to New York and the USA. We nearly went for a hotel close toTimes Square. However we did not want to stay a same old, same old hotel where you could be in any room in a big hotel anywhere in the world and not know which city you are in until you step out of the hotel. Coming from the bush in rural Queensland, Australia we were a bit nervous. Staying somewhere for 15 nights we wanted our hotel to add to our holiday, we wanted get a feel for the people and the city. After a recommendation from a friend who stayed at Chelsea Pines Inn, we checked it out. The website tells you straightaway that it is somewhere different - warm, friendly and welcoming and we were not disappointed when we got there. Situated in the heart of the vibrant Chelsea, Meatpackers and Village districts we were just a few subway stops from the the madding crowd of Times Square, in a lovely 5 storey old building. We loved the little touches, the fresh flowers in the room, the daily newsletter under the door, a very comfy bed and the very friendly and helpful staff.
