One thing that I really liked about EVB&C is the detailed and informative website. You can check for room availability on the site without having to call or wait for an e-mail. If the rooms are booked (usually they are) you can get on a waiting list.

When we arrived we were greeted by Anne who took us up one flight of stairs to our room. We stayed in the Mexican room. The room was cheerful and just the right size for sleeping and storing our stuff. The common areas (kitchen, living room & bath) are shared with 3 other rooms. There's a computer with free internet access in the living room and coffee and tea in the kitchen. We barely heard a peep out of our floor mates, and everything was very clean.

We love the East Village, so the location was perfect for us. The short walk to the subway was never a problem, even in freezing February.

East Village Bed & Coffee has tons more personality than your average hotel, and is clean and affordable. We will definitely go back!

  • Liked — Location, Price, Anne
  • Disliked — The heating works a little too well, our room was hot!

Not too much to add to previous reviews. It's a beautiful space, Anne is cool, and I really like the neighborhood (even if it is way over in Alphabet city). Next time, I'll ask for one of the upstairs rooms and probably one not facing the street. I had trouble sleeping, thanks to drunk partiers on the street until 4 am, then the trash trucks at 5.

  • Liked — I loved the bedding and furnishings.
  • Disliked — Street noise.

It was a dream to see New York at Christmas time!
And it was important for my boyfriend and I to found a place to stay where we could feel at home, in a cosy and warm place(... without spending too much money). After reading soooo much good reviews on tripadvisor and in my tourist guide, we decided to try East Village Bed and Coffee. And we couldn't dream to find a better place! My room was not really big ( mexican room ) but decorate with style and most important clean. The common areas are cosy and it's really easy to feel at home. We shared the floor with 3 other rooms, we were lucky that the people staying there were respectful and clean. Because the rooms are close to each other and close to the kitchen and living room.
Everyday it was a joy after walking all day long in the cold to be back and make a cup of tea, and just relax on the sofa. We stayed 10days and it was heartbreaking to leave East Village Bed and Coffee. Anne, the hostess, is a wonderful person, and she gave us really good addresses to eat and go out. The area is I think the place to be ! Lot's of nice shops, coffee and restaurants. We really had the impression to live like real young and cool New Yorkers, not like european tourists!
I recommend this place from the bottom of my heart and I fell in love with this area!

  • Liked — it was cosy and the area was great
  • Disliked — waiting for the bathroom

I picked this B&B for my husband, brother in law and I to stay for a couple of nights before we flew down to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise.

It's tucked away in the nether regions of Manhattan, where the street numbers run out and they're lettered instead. The cab driver drove past a few times, until we realised that the place that looked like a crack den was our hotel.

We knocked on the graffiti'ed door and looked around suspiciously. However, it was the right place, and inside we found a clean guest house with decent sized rooms and a huge kitchen/lounge with free Internet and TV.

Our room was quiet, considering the location, and the whole place reminded me of some of the student houses I've lived in over the years. Other guests drifted in and out of the lounge, but they mostly kept themselves to themselves.

All in all our stay here was like staying in a distant relative's house. It was friendly enough, in a detached sort of way, and we all felt at home enough to raid the fridge at night and chat with fellow guests at breakfast.

I would certainly recommend this place to anyone seeking either budget accommodation, or a change to all those glossy hotels closer to town.

  • Liked — Friendly atmosphere.
  • Disliked — Bathroom was a little basic, and shared.

Stayed here in late December. Had great difficulty finding affordable accommodation in Manhattan hotels thus ended up here. Could only stay one night due to lack of availability. Hostess, Anne, was very friendly, laid-back. Great location in East Village. Interiors full of character. Ibook on each floor for internet access was a really nice touch. Anne had a nice list of nearby restaurant and jazz club recommendations too.
Only problem -- the bathroom. I admit I don't like to share a bathroom so maybe I am being overly critical but, while it started off quite clean early in the day, it could use an upgrade. Toilet and tub were slow to drain. Floor was wet most of the time.
Other than this, room was very quiet and bed was comfortable enough. Bars and restaurants right across the street -- great for breakfast. Would stay here again.
