“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

For NYC the Gracie Inn was a deal, the location was excellent, quiet street upper east side near York and East End Ave, The staff was very pleasant and from the outside it looked delightful. Our room left much to be desired, felt dirty, squeaky bed, old furniture. Our bath towels were not changed and we did not receive new shampoo each evening. Breakfast was served in our room and we had a choice of croissants, muffins, fruit and yogurt.. One morning we had to ask for coffee cups. It was not a great experience, again you get what you pay for and $240 in NYC is dirt cheap

We read the reviews that varied so greatly and worried as we prepared for our four-day stay at Gracie’s Inn. Simply put, our room(s) and stay were absolutely wonderful especially for the price we paid. We stayed in room 204 for one night then moved to the junior suite for three nights. Four people staying very comfortably in a two-story ‘apartment’ on the Upper East Side for $300 is a great deal.

* The refrigerator wasn’t perfect but we kept our Half&Half and wine in it just fine.
*Towels were gladly exchanged for us whenever we asked (which was daily!).
*We only requested coffee for breakfast but at different times each day. A very good pot of coffee arrived on time piping hot without fail every single day. My husband asked for a NutriGrain bar on the first night but not subsequent ones yet the staff remembered to bring one every day.
*We met many of the office and service staff during our stay, including the very personable Daniel, and every one of them was courteous, pleasant, efficient, and helpful.

As 3dclaire wrote, “It’s quirky and interesting…It has character.” If that’s not your style, there is a more expensive American-style hotel nearby which will give you 1/3 the space for the same price in a more marginal neighborhood.

Room Tip: The size of the junior suite is well worth the added cost.

A dump...an expensive dump...period. Service ok, but rooms need everything. This room cost way more than you would ever want to pay... We choose based on Internet reviews...don't believe them. Beds horrible and room not clean enough...

My husband and I spent a weekend visiting our daughter who lives on E 80th Street. When looking for a place to stay for the weekend in close proximity to our daughter's apartment, we came upon The Gracie Inn. We could not have asked for a more friendly, accommodating, and attentive staff than we found at The Gracie Inn. Not only was convenient, but the ambiance of the Inn far exceeded anything else we could have found elsewhere in the city. Not only was it withing walking distance to our daughter's apartment, but the neighborhood offers fabulous restaurants and culture as all the museums are within a comfortable walk. Most importantly, our room was clean, and we felt safe. We will definitely stay again and recommend The Gracie Inn to our friends who need a place to stay without "breaking the bank" while still experiencing all the the city has to offer. Thank you staff for a great weekend!

Like marmite, you will either love or hate this place. On arrival in our room yesterday could understand why some reviews are great and some are not.

If you are looking for a low cost standard hotel, go elsewhere. This is not an economy Holiday Inn. It's quirky and interesting. We have the junior penthouse with a roof terrace. It's not branded and it's not done up with expensive interior design. It has character. The beds are comfy. And it's clean. It's not standard. Would definitely come here again.

Oh yes, and bring ear plugs. The city that never sleeps has a constant traffic roar. If that's not for you make sure you book somewhere soundproof. That's not to do with the hotel. It's to do with the city.

This is THE most horrible place I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. I cannot believe anyone would thing this place was ok. We only stayed one night (just because we had already paid the deposit for a night) and then got out of there as fast as possible.

The room hadn't been updated in fifty years. This is not an exaggeration. The appliances, furniture, bed and carpet were at least fifty years old. It smelled musty and moldy. There was actually GARBAGE and a pair of JEANS in the stairs next to our room. It's hard to believe that an establishment would actually leave garbage and clothes in the hallway when guests are staying there.

The whole place gives you the creeps and is WAY over priced. If you are on a budget, stay at a hostel. There are way better ones around. Or spend 20 dollars more and stay at a hotel that is 100 times better.
