If you're planning to visit NYC, you might have realized that accommodation in the city can be very expensive. With year-round crowds of tourists strolling the streets, finding a decent, value for money hotel can be a challenging task.
Staying at the Grand Union means you'll be at one of the best locations there is, with lots of shops, restaurants, delis, a subway station around the corner, the Empire State building nearby, etc. On the other hand, it can feel rather touristy, at times.
Room size is adequate, if you're not willing to spend your days in the room. You may not have a view, but there's plenty to see outside, so, who cares about a room with a view?
The rooms are kept clean and tidy and the cleaning staff is very helpful, which can't be said about the receptionist at the front desk, in the mornings. He was neither nice, nor friendly and sometimes was even rude, to say the least. The receptionists for the afternoon and evening shifts were alright.
The building is kind of old, so corridors and carpet may look a bit too worn out, plus there's one elevator for all floors, which means guests use the stairs very often.
On the plus side, there are the complimentary breakfast and good 4G free wi-fi.
In a nutshell, we had a positive experience with this hotel and would recommend it.
