“Great Place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

We had a one bedroom suite on the 10th floor with a balcony and stayed 7 nights. The construction work didn't present a problem, and I am a very light sleeper. The bed was very comfy, as was the living room which also had a huge TV. The location was perfect for us, although it is a little out of the tourist area - however, the subway is only 2 blocks away, and once the new subway line has been built it will be a lot closer. The cleaning staff and reception desk staff were very friendly, and when I rang down with problems with the WiFi, they came up to my room to help me out. It wasn't even their fault - I'm just not very technically minded :) The odd thing like brass effect items in the bathroom were a little tired looking, also the bathroom cabinet but really not important. Overall, it was a great hotel at a very reasonable price. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose 10th floor or above for a view. Having a balcony was lovely, even though it was a cold week.

What a great pleasure to receive such a kind response, “Very comfy bed, Very friendly staff, Very reasonable price” we are Very pleased. We all will be Very pleased when, as you point out, the accessibility of the new Subway is complete and literally on our corner. All the staff will be Very Very pleased when, as you assured, you “would definitely” return.

5th floor superior one bedroom suite was spacious and comfortable. Comfy couch, living room, kitchen, two seating dining room and plenty of closet space. Queen bedroom was extremely comfortable. Balcony was nice to have, but too cold to enjoy. Noisy street construction, but it wasn't too bad. Brass fixtures in the bathroom need a little TLC. Both shower rack and toilet tissue holder fell off the wall. As we were only there for one night, we didn't call to have it fixed. Bathroom tile was also a little creaky. Location was perfect. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance of hotel with a variety of price points. Bus and trains are the way to travel. Front desk is helpful with directions or recommendations of places to eat or things to do. Would stay again, but would love to experience a higher floor.

Thank you for your review pointing out all your favorite aspects of your “spacious” Suite, and some not so favorable, we will redouble our efforts. Soooo nice to see in a New York City hotel review, “plenty of closet space” as opposed to---the room was the size of a closet! As you have promised to return, our “helpful Front desk” will strive to attain that high floor experience you are looking for. Hope to see you soon.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

My family stayed at the Marmara from Dec 26, 2013 - January 1, 2014. There were 6 in our party; 4 family members plus two friends, we ranged in age from 17-51.

We booked two rooms, a 2 bedroom suite and a 1 bedroom suite. From the first contact with the Marmara we had a positive experience. They answered any questions I sent, no matter how small, and accommodated us by putting our rooms as close together as possible.

The suites are wonderful, so large and the views are amazing. We were on the 14th floor and had a beautiful view south and west. The two bedroom had a stacking washer dryer in the room which is so convenient and two bathrooms! A full kitchen and dining area with a large table we used to play poker! We also had a balcony, though it was pretty cold while we were there. I read several reviews that said there was a lot of construction noise, we heard the usual NYC noise, but we are used to it and it doesn't really bother us, other than that I didn't hear any construction. Maybe it's louder on the lower floors.

The one bedroom suite was more than large enough for two people and had a full kitchen, living area etc.. If you are a family with young kids it would be big enough for 4.

The beds were very comfortable, and I'm a picky person when it comes to mattresses, linens were nice, heating worked well, no complaints. The room is a bit dated, but clean and HUGE nd for the price it's a bargain.

The Marmara is pretty far up on the Upper East Side, so if you want to go to midtown or below you need either a cab, which gets a little pricey, or the subway isn't too far off. The street is under construction, actually they are building a new subway line right under 2nd Avenue, which will be wonderful when it's finished, though it's a long while off.

There are plenty of good restaurants just a few blocks away. A largish grocery store and a Duane Reede and Rite Aide 1-2 blocks away. Liquor store on the same block (handy for our New Years champagne). There is a pizza place right across 2nd, Rays Pizza, super cheap and very good, it's not as good as Joe's in Greenwich village, but for $2 a slice it's perfecto!

The staff was very attentive while we were there and after we left they dealt with a billing problem quickly and very much to our liking. We had a person in our group that used the hotel phone, not realizing it would be expensive (it was VERY expensive) and when I discussed it with the hotel, they adjusted the billing. Made me a VERY happy customer and we will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I believe the two bedrooms are on the higher floors, as are the 3 bedroom suites. We wanted a 3 bed...

What a great response and truly a walking brochure for your stay at the Marmara, we’re glad you enjoyed your time in New York. It is a treat to hear that from the very first contact you had a “positive experience” and when at last a billing issue arose it was resolved to your satisfaction, after all we are in the business of “VERY happy customers”. Being a “picky person” is a wonderful thing , we choose to call it discerning, as numerous discerning guests exclaim the comfort of our mattresses and linens, thank you for agreeing with them and pointing that out. Thank you once again for your review and we will hold you to your promise to “definitely” come back.

Sincerely,

The Marmara Manhattan Management Team

We stayed for 5 nights. Nice, cosy appartment which made our stay in New York amazing!7 minitues walk to the nearest sub station but there will be a station directly under the hotel when the construction is finished. Bad was that the construction was direct at the front door, so we had to walk a bit from the cab with our laguagge. Prices are fair, highly recommended

This is a great place for families. We had a one bedroom apt for the four of us with a sofa bed for the two teens. The living space was perfect - so much better than being holed up in a small hotel room although, if I'm honest, the sofa bed wasn't ideal - not that comfortable for long bodies but probably fine for smaller/younger children. Would book a two bed apt if we returned en famille. The lounge, kitchenette and bathrooms (both a very decent size) and bedroom were excellent - all clean, well equipped and spacious. They provide lots of toiletries and towels. The views from our high floor were stunning and we all really enjoyed our time here. The staff on reception are very friendly and efficient. Its location is very good - an easy walk to either Central Park (Upper east side) brings you in very close to the Guggenheim etc and also the apartment is pretty close to the subway - about 15 mins walk, if that. There are supermarkets in the local vicinity and a fantastic restaurant almost opposite - Nick's (pizza and pasta). If you can get a table there - they don't take bookings - it's a great night out, excellent food and super fast service. All in all - highly recommended. Not cheap but where is in NYC?

Room Tip: We asked for a high level and got it - great views of the city in the early morning and at night.

The one bedroom apartment on the 6th floor was great for our family stay in New York. With a full kitchen it gave the option of self catering. The apartment was very comfortable and the staff of the hotel friendly and helpful. A real plus was the access to laundry facilities. We had two issues during our stay. One was that the sofa bed mechanism broke. The bed was replace that day. The other issue was with the heater in the room which was crackling and sparking. This was not repaired during our 12 day stay in which time it was getting very cold. There seemed to be a genuine lack of communication between reception and maintenance as to what was going on.

However the location is good, a couple of blocks from Central Park and close to two subway stops. As the apartment faced 2nd Ave the road noise and subway construction noise can be annoying at times. There is no noise from other apartments so these apartments would benefit from improved glazing.

Room Tip: Higher floors not facing 2nd Ave would be quieter. Good base for longer stays.

One of our most cherished amenities is the option of self-catering, it is rare to find a such a user friendly full kitchen in New York, so glad you enjoyed yours. Thank you for pointing out that in addition to the size of our Suites, the full kitchen and “helpful friendly staff” there are laundry facilities available 24 hours a day conveniently located next to our Gym. Now you have no more excuses to get that workout in, the Gym is also open 24 hours… anytime there is time to kill two birds with one stone. Thank you for your great review and constructive criticism, we are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience regarding your noisy heater. The Marmara Manhattan is truly “Good for families” and we cannot wait to host yours again soon.

Sincerely,

We stayed at the Marmara for 8 days including Christmas, being the 2 of us plus our 3 grown "kids" we needed a 3 bedroom apartment. The apartment was great, clean and modern, great facilities, 3 bathrooms and wi-fi plus washer, dryer and kitchenette. The staff and their service and helpfulness were excellent. The larger aprtments are (I think) mainly on the upper floors, so we got views of the East River and across to the Empire State building. Ray's Pizza across the street, Bagel Express around the corner and plenty of eating spots within 2 blocks, 96th Street subway station only 2 blocks away, and Central Park and the Museums are are only a 10-15 min walk. Great hotel in a great location.

“Great hotel in a great location”,…. guess there is nothing more to say, but we are so glad you did. Our 3 Bedroom Suites are truly a marvel couple that with “helpful and excellent” staff, NOW there truly nothing more to say. Thanks a million….no two million.
