“I wouldn't stay here.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

I stayed here for 2 crap nights. They've crammed too many beds, typically, into the rooms. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm, which they called a "Premium Dorm". Gee, would hate to see what the "non-premium" dorms are like. The room should have only had 6 beds. 8 was far too cramped. Then there was the inability to breathe with the room so very hot. It has a 1950's heater which is loud.

Another bad thing about the room is that the bunk beds lack privacy, have no shelves or power points for top bunks. Not to mention there were no personal lights for any of the beds so people just turned the main and only light on, regardless of the hour if they needed to do something.

The location isn't central or close to Downtown but close to the Subway.

Unlike other HI's I stayed at (but wouldn't stay at again), there was no free breakfast.

Finally, Hostelling International's infamous no alcohol policy. Grow up HI.

Don't stay here.

This is my second visit to this hostel this year after visiting also in June. Both trips were great and the hostel was ideal for me.

Right next to the 1 train subway stop on 103rd and Broadway which takes you right into the heart of the shopping part of Manhatten (34th street = macys, 51st street = times sq) and then further down to South Ferry where you can visit the state of Liberty and Staten Island. $30 buys you an unlimited subway pass for a week and it's WELL worth it. I downloaded a subway app on my iPhone to help me navigate!

The hostel itself is clean and trendy. staff are super helpful too.

I stayed there 10 days in November and for 7 days Internet didn´t work. I talked to the manager complaining about that because we were paying for that service. He said that the company were making changes, the hostel wasn´t responsible.
Rooms don´t have a proper heating system. Or you are very hot or very cold, mattress have springs , then, not very confortable.
Price is really expensive. If you are a member of HI you pay 53 dollars without breakfast!!!
Staff is really very good and helpful and the location is great, next to Central park.
Thay also have activities and you can take advantage of them.
I hope they improve for the next future.

Three really unlucky days... With the wireless connection not available for the entire time, with the fire alarm in the middle of the night.... Not all people were evacuated! But nice and clean hostel! Really nice (not included, but we were in New York) breakfast... But I couldn't taste it because we needed internet, so every morning we had breakfast at Starbucks!!!! The problem with internet was really unacceptable! We paid also for it....

I stayed here with my sister last summer, and it was amazing. A bit pricier than the average hostel, but it's definitely worth the extra cash. The first night we got there There was a party on the patio with live music and free drinks and bbq. Every night they hosted an event, free of charge. We only went on one, the pubcrawl, but they all sounded like so much fun. A great place to meet people.
Our rooms were very safe and clean, and so were the bathrooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. I really have no complaints, would definitely recommend.

Great location just a couple blocks from central park.
I stayed in the dorms which were perfectly adequate and the beds were comfortable.
The bathroom was clean and they had a decent common room with T.V.
Also was good to use their kitchen.
It is a little expensive for a hostel but not a bad place to stay.
