“Budget hotel, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed one night, a couple blocks away from Times square and so on. Its a basic hotel with shared bathrooms were very clean and quiet when i was there, rooms are small and basic. bed was comfortable, sheets clean. Can't complain. Bathroom on third floor needed a bit of maintenance. Wifi in lobby if you need it, otherwise use your phone as a hotspot. If your looking for more luxurious places, right around the corner there's a couple hotels selling rooms at +$300 a night.... This place is fine for the price considering the location.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

It was our first trip to NYC. We were going for two weeks, and two weeks in NYC does stretch your budget. We had to decide early on with comfort vs location, and quickly settled that we do really want to stay in Midtown with much of the sightings reachable on feet. So we ended up with Americana Inn.

The rooms are tiny, have washing basin and AC. The bathrooms and showers are shared, there are about 5 on each floor. In practice we never had to queue up, there was one readily available.

The first few days we were issued a 2nd floor street facing room, with a fine view onto 6th avenue, there was even classic New York fire escape stairs out of the window. As enjoyable as it is, it was too noisy for my wife to sleep comfortably so we asked the staff for a quieter room. No view at all there and another 3 floors up, but it was quiet.

The rooms are clean, the staff was helpful and friendly. WiFi is provided courtesy nearby hotel, but the coverage can be spotty.

The location, though.. you ARE there, a 5 minute walk from the 5th ave shopping, the Broadway and Times Square, a 10-15 minute from the Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, MoMA or the Empire State. A 15-20 minutes to the Central Park or to Flatiron.. and so on. Beats hours of commute from NJ or outskirts of Brooklyn, and made the trade-off worthy for us.

There is a very affordable, Michelin star (!) restaurant (Cafe China) in the same block with the hotel, you don't even have to cross the road. We dined there much of our evenings. There's a deli across the road and a couple coffee shop chains.

All in all I would recommend it, if the idea of shared bathroom doesn't terrify you.

Room Tip: Yard facing rooms on the upper floors are fairly quiet. Street facing rooms on low floors are noisy...

i needed a cheap hotel near Penn Station for one night. It turned out to be not cheap in comparison with other hotels. I was amazed that I did not have a bathroom. The room was like a prison cell. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. It was noisy. There was nothing good about this hotel. The best part of my stay was leaving. You can do much better for the same money.

i don't understand how people can critize this place i mean this is not a luxury hotel but when you consider the value ,price and location this little place is among the best in town period. the area is very safe within blocks of everything the rooms are clean and the staff is friendly in my experience, me and my honey we go to new York every summer for a getaway no kids just the two of us and we always have a good time,in new york is all about the location, you don't go there to stay in your room lock up, all the fun is outside so you just need a place convient that is clean so you can crash after a long night out,you get my point so stay at the more expensive hotel if you like but for me i can't wait for next summer most likely this is were I'll stay.

This was much more like a hostel than a hotel. Rooms are tiny. Bathrooms are shared. Heat was pumping so high we sweat through the night. My husband was able to stretch and reach both walls at the same time. Someone puked on shared bathroom floor and it stayed there all night. Walls are thin so you can hear workers and guests all night...including doors opening and closing to use shared bathroom. If you literally just need a place to crash and leave your stuff, the location is good. If you are the least bit picky this isn't the place for you.

The room was extremely small, and with no extras other than a small TV (with remote that didn't work!) The room did not have a hairdryer, iron or coffee pot. The double bed was up against the wall and the head of the bed was right against the window and had no headboard. There was a draft blowing on our heads all night. The small sink in the room was very helpful since there is not bathroom in the room. This was our first experience with shared bathroom and we will never do that again! The shared bathroom lacked soap at the sink and no towels to dry our hands (only an extra roll of toilet paper!) The rooms were clean but outdated and aged. The only advantage this hotel has is its location. Thankfully we were only staying in NYC for one night.

If you're going to judge it purely on other hotels you've stayed at (assuming you've stayed at some 4 star plus establishments) you'll be disappointed. The fact that you're considering this means that you've seen how extortionate all other hotels are in New York and are on a budget.

The hotel does the job. I was in NY for 1 night, and wasn't going to be checking in til after 19:00 so I literally needed a place to keep my suitcase and lay my head for a few hours before leaving NY the next afternoon. My room had two single beds, no bathroom, a wash basin in the corner, and no frills whatsoever. You get some towels, tissue and a cup by your wash basin and there are communal bathrooms with showers down hallway. Wifi is offered in the lobby area.

The property is pretty much as advertised, though the reality of seeing it may dampen your spirits, but I got no real surprises. The property is clean, and functional and for the price and location, you can't argue that it's value for money. Personally, I wouldn't stay longer than 3 days due to the single bed, and communal bathroom, which is something I've never dealt with when staying in a hotel, but for what I needed it for, it did the trick.

I find it odd people here complaining about shared bathrooms, and how basic the premises are. Look at the damn price and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this isn't the Ritz Carlton. Also, as mentioned, the property mentions the bathroom situation. If you're that precious about certain comforts, pay the extra money and go elsewhere.
