“Excellent staff, wonderful location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The staff always brings me back! I've stayed here my past 3 visits to midtown. Check in is always a breeze. The staff is friendly and helpful. They're willing to accommodate and assist in any way possible. The location is perfect. Near the Empire State Building, subway is just outside, Herald Square is across the way. Nice outside market is set up on the weekend. Easy walk to Times Square.

We had a very bad experience with this hotel--and particular the guest services manager, a Mr. Shafi.

To make a long story short, we booked this hotel--then changed plans and wanted to stay in another part of town. We cancelled this reservation and booked another Hilton property in NYC. There was a problem with the Hilton website--my cancellation did not register, but I ended up with two reservations at the Double Tree. But upon checking in at Double Tree we were told that we had no reservation (later straightened out). So just to be sure, I called the HGI to make sure that reservation was cancelled. I was informed that we would be charged a cancellation fee ($426.93) because we had not cancelled by 6 am that morning--despite the fact that the error was with the Hilton website reservation system!

After heated words with several Hilton representatives the Hilton corporate folks have promised to make this right and will refund the charge. So, we will continue to stay at other Hilton Garden Inns and any other Hilton brand hotels--but will NEVER stay at this Hilton Garden Inn again.

Sadly, we had stayed there several times before, but never again.

Good afternoon WarEagleCharlotte,

I wanted to personally apologize for the inconvience and troubles you encountered while attempting to cancel your reservation with us. I assure you our intent was not to cause you grief & frustration prior to your visit to NY. I will personally investigate to find out the cause for the breakdowns so that we may learn to better handle similar sitiuations in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

Best regards,
Joseph D'Angelo

My wife was very happy during our stay. She walked to Macy's everyday. The room was small, but this is New York. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The only negative thing I can say is the elevators. It is amazing how they fit 250 plus room in such a small land area. So it must go vertical but then the 3 elevators get crowded during check in and check out. Not much a problem unless you are in as hurry to catch a plane or train. If you plan your day, this not be a problem. We're planning to return to this hotel this coming holiday season.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower level floor so you don't have to wait long for the elevator.

Excellent accommodations in great location. Walking distance to many attractions. Subway station within yards for others. Herald Square just outside made for great relaxing area. Empire State Building visible from room...kids loved that! Room more than adequate (not that we spent much time there). Very friendly staff. Felt secure in the building. Always a line for concierge so we did not use that service.

Very nice room, and very nice location. When we made reservations, we made them for an extra day, because we were told if we canceled the last day before 5:30, there would be no charge. When it came to check out the manager would not keep that promise. He finally did cut the $70 change fee in half, but still charged me $35 for changing my reservation. If this hotel would have kept their promise, I would rate them 5 stars. Too bad we had to leave the place on a sour note. Otherwise, a great place!

My stay at the Hilton Garden Inn was perfect. The staff was very friendly and the room had a great view of the Empire State Building. I recommend this hotel for business or pleasure and I will stay here again.

Of our many visits to New York and stays in various areas, this hotel and location were the best and we will definitely return. On arrival the manager wished my daughter a happy birthay and on arrival in our room there was a lovely pastry and card with greetings. On approaching our 27th floor window we realized we had a magnificent view of the Empire State Building at night. After this everything else was equally fine. The hotel and room were spotless, the lobby coffee, punch, cookies were a delight. The room was a nice size with a large bathroom. The price was much better than what we have previously paid in NYC for much less of an experience. Easy walking to Times Square, Macy's, the High Line, theater, shopping and restaurants were a delightful surprise. Desk personnel were very professional and welcoming. This is what a hotel experience should be in a city as hurried as New York is. By the way the security additions (room card for entry and elevator) were most welcome although it is in a very nice area.

Room Tip: Pay for a city view and opt for a high floor if available. We were next to the elevator and heard n...
