“Rooms so small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

For some reason the room seemed smaller to me, the service was wonderfull. however the service at the front desk was superior, I felt welcome and warm. I think the price per room is rather high, but theemoney was a good value

Hotel has very small rooms in a dingy part of the Chelsea area. Elevators were rather slow, would suggest getting a room on the lower floors. The restaurant was over lit, would suggest dimming the lights slightly and save on utilities. The staff was very friendly.

Robert I, we are sorry to hear that you found our neighborhood to be dingy and the breakfast area overlit. We will certainly take the lighting into consideration so that we can improve upon the experience our guests have in our restaurant. We are very happy to know that you found our staff to be friendly, and appreciate your feedback.

We stayed there for 5 days, the hotel is great, the location is perfect, you can walk very easily to all the main attractions in NYC. I would prefer the room to be a bit bigger, that would be a perfect hotel! The staff was also very helpful. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends going to NYC! Didn't try breakfast, since we had a 'bed only' rate, but there are so many places around to have breakfast! New York is a lovely city!

We arrived 1 hour later in NYC bc our flight was delayed. We got to the hotel and we had a reservation for a double bed room for 3 people. The only 2 room ready were either with a king our with a queen. To compensate, they gave us breakfast vouchers for a day. They did change the room on the next day before we arrived back from the city.
So even though it was horrible sleeping with an additional mattress on the floor and not having a real bed or space to walk in the room, I thought they handle it ok. Also, they sent in some fruit to the room on Saturday with a nice card.
Everything else was clean and nice.

Even though it was a couple of months since I stayed at this hotel, I figured I have to write a review of it.

We arrived to Doubletree Hotel Chelsea after a really long day with alot of fuzz.
The receptionist that checked us in was great!
He was really nice and relaxed and managed to calm down two stressed and overwhelmed Europeans visiting New York for the first time.
We asked for a room with a view against the Empire State Building, said and done - no problem.
The portier helped us with our luggage and the room was perfect.
It had a great bed and all the facilities that we needed.
The Housekeeping also did an extremely good job cleaning and refilling the room.
When it was time for us to leave the hotel also arranged transport to the airport for us.

We didn't try out the hotel breakfast since the area around the hotel provided that for us.

New York is an amazing city and I've always dreamed going there.
When I finally did it, this hotel was one of the reasons that made all of my thoughts come true.

Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Stayed at The Doubletree Chelsea with six girlfriends (in three rooms). When we arrived our rooms weren't all ready even though it was past 5:00 p.m. They compensated us with breakfast vouchers which was quite accommodating. We were given hot chocolate chip cookies when we arrived.

Although the front desk staff were courteous and friendly, there were errors in our billing once we checked upon our return home, but we were a large group and that can complicate things.

The rooms are small but very comfortable. One of our rooms (the one that was ready last) was missing things--there was no kleenex, no extra roll of toilet paper, and one of the double beds was missing a blanket.

The location is excellent, close to The Highline, Macy's and a quick cab ride to Times Square, etc. The street the hotel is located on is a bit dicey with knock-off handbag shops but there are tons of retail areas down the street, in all directions. There was a nice little patio out front with umbrella tables. Fresh water is served in the lobby, although the lobby area is tiny. The whole hotel is very small and the elevators are slow, but I imagine most NY hotels are similar.

In summary, this is a decent hotel with comfortable beds and a well-appointed room (although small). Friendly staff tried hard to keep us happy. If you get a good deal, stay here....if not, look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Our room had a city view but some ugliness close to our building.

I booked through Hilton Honors & paid about $200/night - fees & taxes included. I booked based on price point. That being said I wasn't expecting posh accommodations. Space is tight in this hotel. Lobby & rooms are small. Carpet throughout a little shabby. Lobby, elevator & front desk busy during my stay. There was no bellman or valet staff upon my arrival. There is a convenient garage across street so If you are driving, park your car there before attempting to drop off your luggage. Staff were friendly but busy. Breakfast buffet was better than most.

DeeTravel57, we are very sorry to know that we did not meet your expectations for your stay with us. While we try to staff for each day, weekends tend to have most activity all at the same time. We are happy to offer valet service at the same garage you mention, but because of proximity, the valet is upon request, not staffed in front of the hotel. We hope you will give us another try, and we thank you for your positive comments on our breakfast and our staff!
