“Location location location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We had booked into a 3 bedroom apartment but stayed one night and left. Just awful. We found Doubletree as we had stayed in one in Houston last year. Location for us was great. Could walk to Time Square or down to Chelsea/Soho. Subway station very close and Penn Station a stone throw away. Rooms are quite small but beds super comforable. Check in was easy and we booked a towncar when we left through them which was on time and a set price to the airport. But! Our party had 2 rooms. One on the 18th floor with partial view of the Empire State Building. That room had a damp smell in it and they bought in a dehumidifier into the room to try to get the smell out. It was there for 4 days and still the room smelt damp. The room i stayed in was on the 22nd floor and there was a bulding near and there was a nightclub on the top of the buliding at about the 20th level. They have a permit to play LOUD music till 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. Reception told me this when i rang up on Saturday morning at about 1am asking where the music was coming from. How a city council can allow this is beyond me. I know this is NYC and it never sleeps but it could at least be a little more quiet during the night. Would I stay there again. For the location and comfort yes, but for the noise no. I would ask for a room away from that side.

Room Tip: A room away from the noisy nightclub on the building next door.

Rooms was small but clean. Stayed for a wedding block. Paid $269 plus $9 additional for partial "view" of Empire State Bldg. Next time I'd save the $9. Bed was comfortable and room was fine but shower curtain smelled moldy. I'd stay again but probably would look for better place at same rate.

Room Tip: I would ask about view before paying for it.

Service was impeccable-everyone from the Manager on duty, guest service reps to the servers. I expected the typical New York attitude, but was wrong. The staff was friendly and hospitable. The Steve's breakfast was delicious and the portions were just right. I would return there in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Doubletree Chelsea for two nights as part of an organized bus tour. The hotel is on 29th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and Mac's; and about 20-25 minutes to Times Square.

The rooms were small but clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was a restaurant at the hotel although we didn't eat there so can't comment on quality or value. WiFi was available, although at a cost - we just used the free WiFi at Starbucks around the corner.

The lobby is extremely small, more than half a dozen people and luggage makes it extremely difficult to move around and the lifts are very slow. Our room was on the second floor facing the street, which was not only noisy, but the room smelt strongy of cigarette smoke, particularly when first entering the room after a day out. We think the cigarette smoke was coming into the room through the air conditioning unit as our room was immediately above people smoking outside the lobby entrance.

Sue M, thank you for your post, and your positive comments regarding the cleanliness of the rooms, and comfortable bed. We're sorry you had the experience with smoke smell and will certainly do our best to avoid this same situation with smoking close to the hotel entrance in the future. We hope to see you on a future visit!

The Chelsea DTH is a clean and relaxing great place to stay. With views of 1 World Trade Center from your window and courteous staff. When we come back, we will stay here again. Pretty much central to everything without the touristy feel and little off the beaten path to make a great place.

Room Tip: The Higher the floor the better the views.

We had a kingsize suite with a view of the empire state building on the 26th floor for three nights and it was superb!
The reception was friendly and prompt. The lifts are a little slow to catch as there are only two serving the hotel but this is New York and frankly not something worth thinking about.
The room was perfect size(NY is not known for big hotel rooms so hadn't expected much so wasn't disappointed)
Location is really handy, walking distance to Penn station, the highline(northmost section) and time square.
Bed was very comfy, we even ended up staying in one night watching tv and was wonderful.
only down point is the WIFI isn't free in the rooms but available in the reception area. Guess that's common though not just with this hotel.
Would stay here again for sure, it's worth going for the high level king suites with a view of the empire state building, really adds to the experience. Was a bit pricey but think if you shop about you may get a better deal then we did. We were woken up by drilling on one of the mornings at 8am but not sure if it was from a neighbouring building or not. No pool and didn't try the gym/spa so cant comment on that

Room Tip: high level empire state view is a must

I've stayed here twice: first in February 2011 and again in September 2012. I was pleased with the hotel both times. What I find most helpful is how close this hotel is to the Vamoose Bus stop for when I bus up to NYC from DC. Plus, the hotel is near the Macys at Harold Square and not far from Times Square, either. My room was clean, the wi-fi was more than sufficient. Also, as an HHonors Gold, I got free breakfast. In fact, I was impressed with how friendly and helpful the waitresses were in the restaurant during breakfast.

John S, we appreciate so much that you are a Hilton Honors member, and that you chose us not just once, but twice! It is convenient to Vamoose from here! Our Breakfast crew should be starting your day with a smile and we are so glad they did. Please return soon!
