“Street Meat at it's Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

I was a little hesitant to eat here, but the place has decent to long lines each day. It is the best value as eating in NYC is more expensive than many locations in the US. For $6 you get a bowl of salad, rice, and get the lamb it was better than the chicken and my friend thought so too. Definitely worth the visit and it will make you feel good supporting the local small businesses.

“You don't usually expect food this good from a food cart!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2010

This place is a food cart on the Southeast corner of 53rd and 6th. I asked for a Falafel sandwich at first and the guy kept asking me if I want chicken or beef. Not sure why he kept misunderstanding me, I find it hard to believe he doesn't know the difference of a Falafel and a Shawarma. Anyway, finally figured out they were out of Falafel, so I picked up a half and half chicken and beef with rice and salad meal. Good portion for $6. The food was really good. I'd say the beef is a little better (more flavorful) than the chicken as it tastes like they used gyros seasoning. The rice was good and so is the white sauce. The hot sauce is really hot and he gave us two squirts. I could have gone for another two squirts of hot sauce as I love spicy food. Will definitely be back to have some more. Who knew food cart food can be this good?!!?

“Best Cheap Meal in Manhattan... It's a toss up, Halal or Pizza...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2010

Let's face it, it is not Le Bernardin... It is however the best example of true street food in Manhattan. Something not to be missed to experience the true flavor of NY. After all you can only eat so much Pizza. Personally, I like the lamb and rice plate better than the chicken. For $6 it is hard to beat. I usually use a mixture of the white and red sauces (one red sauce and 2 white sauces on the whole plate). It is worth the wait (the line is always long but moves rather quickly) and as others have said, make sure that you are in the right place (the long line should give it away)... If I have several nights in the city, I will usually eat here on one of them. If you only have a night or two, then I would suggest enjoying one of Manhattan's finer restaurants (Le Bernardin, La Grenioulle, Jean Georges, Per Se, as none of these should be missed).

If you have several nights though and really want to experience the flavor of the city, then eating here one night is a good choice. I would say a four night stay should include one night at fine dining (see names mentioned earlier), one night for walk up Pizza (my favorite is Pronto on 48th st next to the south side of Rockefeller Center), one night for "fun" dining (Prune, Les Halles, Marsailles, Paradou, Spice Market, Marchi's, etc), and one night here.

Also, if you are on a tight budget and want to make sure that you get enough food, then this is the place...

“Wouldn't feed it to my dog.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2010

I looked this place up after reading the reviews on here.

The food lay in my stomach like a ball of lard for two days.

Horrible, horrible stuff.
