“over rated and over priced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We stayed for one night as a victim of Hurricane Sandy. It cost C$500.00 per night for this we got
A kettle but no tea bags or coffee to make a drink (had to order this through room service costing extra) Fortunately there was a store round the corner to buy milk and tea bags ect.
Sofabed, but no bedding to make it up (took us over 2 hours and three phone calls to get all the bedding needed)
Traffic Noise (the windows were not soundproofed so were kept awake all night)
A huge very long table in the very noisy lobby where you could sit with the New York trendies and connect your lap top with the internet whilst enjoying an over priced drink.
Suitable for young trendies with more money than sense who are oblivious to traffic noise

Room Tip: If you want a hot drink then bring your own tea bags, milk etc. Ask for the quietest room away fro...

Dear Zita55,

First and foremost, we consider ourselves fortunate to have had the chance to take you in from Hurricane Sandy. We sincerely hope all is ok, and that life is getting back to normal. We thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and would like to address a few points, as our customer service and your Ace experience is our sole priority. All of our guest rooms are outfitted with a kettle and tea bags. It sounds like you didn’t have any in your room and for that we apologize. While we don’t include bedding for our sofa beds unless requested by our guests, there is no explanation for such a delayed delivery. We are also sorry to hear you had such a difficult time sleeping with us. We offer many rooms on the interior of the building and will always try to accommodate specific requests. Please know your feedback has been addressed with our team. Thanks again.

all the best,

graham

it's a cool and hip hotel once you can feell when stepping in the lobby (with those dim lights). Same for the corridors and rooms which are also darker than you can imagine. Parties and activities every nite so you won't get bored and can get high and drunk...but have to bear the noise if you are in lower floors. Services is just so so as you won't expect to have it from someone who's really cool.
Also, ask for a room not viewing 26th as it's so close to the garbage collecting place which generates huge noises durinig the nite.

I liked this hotel because its actually very different than other hotels in NYC. Since its somewhat affordable, I wasn't expecting it to be an "it" scene and I wasn't expecting it to be as spacious and nice. I also thought it was pretty conveniently located, even though its not in the middle of all the fun, most of it is a short cab ride away or you can walk to pretty great food trucks/neighboring restaurants.
Stumptown roasters downstairs always had a line, but the coffee and pastries were worth the quick moving line.
Overall, I would stay here again & would recommend!

My wife, our little boy and I stayed at Ace Hotel for an unforgettable week. The hotel has a very central location, close to everything. We also loved our room and the vibe of the place. Most of all, we really appreciated the friendly and helpful staff. We were there during hurricane Sandy and felt perfectly safe, as a result of an amazing job from reception and security teams, with a special thanks to Arash. I highly recommend this hotel and would love to stay there again.

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel recently, and had a great stay! Although this hotel may not suit the luxury travellers or the faint hearted, I think this is a great NYC choice. Rooms are nice and well-equipped, the lobby is more like a cafe/bar with DJs and concerts, service is excellent and bar/roomservice food great (especially the hamburgers!). Clientel are young (at least at heart) and the lobby is constantly bustling.

Although Manhattan midtown can be a rather boring area, there are glimpses of greatness to be found nearby. For instance the rooftop bar just around the corner. In addition Times Square, Macy's etc are close by. In fact I think that Ace has tried to make the hotel a destination in it self, due to the lack of much exitement in the immediate surroundings (yes, I know it is only 50 yards to 5th avenue, but still.....), and for a night or two they might actually get away with it. We had great fun in the lobby/bar, and would definately reccommend a night out there.

In short, I will probably visit Ace Hotel again. And so should you!

I'd like to give a 3.5 rating if possible as it's better than average but some key aspects keep me from being able to bestow a "very good" on this establishment.

First off the ACE is quite possibly the most optimally located hotel in all of NYC. You can walk just about anywhere you'd want to go, wonderful dining options are nearby, shopping is always close in New York but you can't beat the choices in the area around the Ace.
The lobby is always bustling morning, noon, and night. That has to do with both the Stumptown coffee served in the cafe as well as the fresh, creative drinks from the bar.

There is a bit of an air about that place that could make some feel a bit out of place. Perhaps it had something to do with the front desk clerk who informed us in a super snooty tone after multiple times of our key demagnetizing, (rendering us stuck in the elevator unable to get to our room, much less get in it) that "these things rarely just demagnentize on their own" rather than simply apologizing for the inconvenience. Is it really that important to make a point that is in fact unproveable and likely false?

Also - request a room FAR from the elevators. The walls are thin so it's bad enough to hear late nighters coming in at 3am, but hearing the 'ding' of the elevator ALL night borders on torture.

Anyways-- go for the scene, the location, and fun little surprises in your room. It's very well decorated and has a fantastic mini-bar!

Room Tip: Again- be as far as possible from the elevators

This hotel is so into its own trendiness that it lacks the qualities of a first rate hotel. the lobby is loud and packed at all times. Difficult to find a place to land with a couple of friends. No chance for a quiet talk. The restaurant which was practically empty wouldn't seat us for breakfast until the remaining two people in our party arrived. $360++ for a tiny room with a window that opened two inches and breakfast not included is not good value. Having said that, the location is good, the clientele young and groovy, the room amenities good but all in all more of a destination than a good hotel.
