“Very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012 via mobile

Design hotel in a very nice area, close to the subway station. Staff at the reception is very helpful and kind. Price is generally ok, and compared to the rest of Manhattan is good. Room a bit small, but nice.

I felt like I was in munchkinland while a guest at this hotel. everything feels really tiny, the bed the chairs the drawers and the toilet the shower etc...are all designed for toddlers. the shower also had little to no water pressure which really was a let down. besides those two pitfalls the place is immaculately clean and staff is helpful and the location has lots going on.

Good Evening, smashk, we sincerely appreciate your review and apologize for the size of the room you were in was not to your satisfaction. I would like for you to visit our property again and I would like to recommend reserving our Penthouse Suite. The penthouse suite is our most spacious room and has a terrace with beautiful scenery of the Big Apple. We are always improving our services for all of our guests and if you would like to e-mail your name and room number, I will have my engineering staff check the water pressure in the room. My contact e-mail is: Chelsea.fom@thegemhotel.com. Thank you so much for your thoughts about our hotel and our staff. I will make sure to tell my staff that you were satisfied with our services. Once again, it was an honor to have you stay with us and we would like another opportunity to WOW you.

Not expecting much, we were still underwhelmed by the size of the room provided for the price paid.If you're a couple, showering and dressing sequentially rather than concurrently would be the recommendation.
While the location is good and the staff helpful, details such as the mandatory $2 per day charge for the room safe, whether you use it or not, appears parsimonious.
Would we stay again? Probably not.

The hotel has a good location with easy access to various restaurants and night spots.
The room is small and we had a wall for a view. The room was clean and fully equiped though.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great location. I loved visting the city and being in the meat packing district However, our stay was ruined by a very rude staff memeber named Ms. Sabino because of her I would not come back to this hotel.- Good hotel but rude staff.

I recently stayed at this Gem Hotel. The staff was excellent and friendly. The rooms are small, but it was comfortable. The internet worked well, and even though it was a walk to 52nd St. where I had dinner it made for a good walk after eating a nice meal. I would have no issue staying there again.

This was my first experience staying at the Gem hotel and I liked it very much. It's a real neighborhood hotel -- with my window open in my second-floor room I could hear everything going on in the street. Some might not like this, but I prefer it to being on the 18th floor totally removed from everything. Good selection of restaurants and delis in the area and easy walking distance to lots of Chelsea and West Village locations. The only thing is -- the rooms are small. Probably why it's called "the Gem." Nothing larger than a double bed would fit in the room. But the bathrooms are pretty large and there was adequate space for everything. I would stay there again.
