We picked Ink48 for it's location, price, and theme. We wanted to stay in Times Square, but felt $400 a night was unreasonable. This was a great compromise! Ink48 was under $300 (we stayed on Thursday and Friday night), but still close to all the action. It was a nice nine block walk to the subway everyday... not bad. As a boutique hotel, I know we got a great deal, because of its location in Hells Kitchen. That same hotel would have cost more than the chains if it was located in Times Square.
Our view was half city, half Hudson River.... perfect! The rooms were nicely appointed. We aren't frequent boutique hotel stayers, but I would compare the decor of the room itself to the Wynn or Mandalay Bay in Vegas, (not quite as nice, but close). It was very modern. The animal print robes and umbrella were a nice touch, too!
We liked the fact that the building is a former print shop. They really carry the theming well, even using different types of fonts as their meeting room names. The restaurant is called Print and the bar is called Press. My father was a printer and I am a journalist, so that was a big selling point!
We did eat at Print Restaurant the first night. I was very impressed with the presentation on the plate. The steak itself was not as good as what I can get in the midwest, but still delicious. It came with broccoli flan, which I found most unique. It was green with the consistency of jello, but tasted of pure broccoli. The drink I ordered was excellent, although my boyfriend thought it tasted like Christmas.
We enjoyed an evening up at the rooftop bar, Press. It felt like one of NYC's best kept secrets. It was a little chilly to be out there at night in April, was worth it nonetheless. It was much more low key than the rooftop bar we "played" at, at the Gansevoort Hotel the next night, which had wall to wall crowds, dance music, and a surprise appearance by Kanye West.
From the time we arrived to the time we left, were were treated like VIPs at Ink48. Given its great location and service, I can't imagine staying anywhere else.
