“Good value for money in expensive Manhattan location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

None of the other hotels in the Midtown West area were comparable to this deal through Expedia for a city which is expensive to stay in; no hotels in Manhattan are ideally located for everything, but this is located centrally between the Central Park attractions and downtown, with subway lines serving most of the area from Port Authority, Penn Station or Times Square stations all close by. This chain hotel provided everything we expected from the Holiday Inn brand, and we had no complaints about our room or the hotel. The only time we really experienced delays waiting for one of the two lifts was between 4pm-5:30pm when people were arriving and checking in with lots of luggage. The breakfast area is small, but HI make the most of the available space and we were able to find a table for two each morning. Breakfast was adequate, with a standard selection of hot and cold choices, enough to fill the gap until lunchtime. The only reason I would not stay in this hotel again is because we feel we have experienced this area already, and would choose another area to stay next time we return, but this is no reflection on the hotel itself.

This was a great location for me. It is just a short walk to Javits Convention Center, and the breakfast they offered was quite good. They were exceptionally accommodating to my needs. And they offered complimentary cookies and lemonade in the afternoon! The rooms are on the small side, but just fine when all you need it for is sleeping and showering. It was only a few blocks to Times Square and Penn Station as well. I would definitely stay here again.

I am a little late with this review; stayed here in June of this year for a whole week on business.

I was very, very impressed with the value and service at the hotel. It's a really nice little niche in Manhattan, and it's a definite find, especially if you are focused on either the Theater District or the Garment District. It's centrally located--right around the corner from the Port Authority Bus Terminal and only a few blocks from Penn Station. For those who talk about the room being small--it's not. It's Manhattan, and the rooms are extremely typical for the area.

Pros:
Comfortable beds
Very clean
Very friendly front desk and good service
Great full hot breakfast
Coffee maker next to the bed (It's great to just roll over and hit the button in the morning!)
Quiet; the windows are double glazed

Cons:
Few. Mainly size issues.
There are only two elevators, and it's a high-rise. It can be a little slow and/or crowded to get a space on the elevator, particularly around check-in and breakfast time.
Also, the breakfast area is a little cramped.
Taxi service--it's on a quiet section of 37th. Not hard to get a cab in the early morning (they tend to wait for guests checking out), but you may need to walk around the corner to the taxi stand at the bus terminal on 8th Avenue during most of the day. Fortunately, you can also catch the A, C, and E Subway lines at the terminal station as well.

All in all, it's a really nice experience here.

Great location with a good value for NYC. Room was comfortable & clean. Breakfast was very good & always plenty of food. Staff was friendly & helpful. Concierge was helpful, but not very
friendly. It was my 1st trip to NYC & will use this hotel upon my return.

Room Tip: Rooms are all about the same.

Used my ICHG points for this hotel in Times Square. Turned out to be a great little find. Clean and nicely fitted rooms. Great service and the option of a basic but free breakfast downstairs was a nice touch. Also FREE wifi, a rarity in hotel in North America!

Just a few minutes walk away from Times Square and the rooms were bigger and more modern / comfortable than I expected. Breakfast can get a little crazy if you don't get down there early, but it does the job nicely...and who knew you could get a pancake from a machine (this is clearly what scientists had in mind when they were inventing 3D printing!)?

The building is thin and tall, so chances are you'll have a bit of an elevator ride to and from your room. We were on the 33rd floor and this posed no problems to us.

This is ideal for a short holiday in New York (we were there for 5 nights), so I definitely recommend it.
